Rose's P.O.V. -

I woke up to my alarm blaring throughout the room. It was playing "Heroes" by All Time Low.

I shot up and started getting ready, remembering that today was my first day of school here in Sydney.

My name is Rose Tomsen. I'm 16 years old, but I live in an apartment by myself. Well, not completely by myself. I have a small baby Dalmatian named Delilah. Yes, Delilah, as in the song "Hey There Delilah" by the Plain White Tees.

In case you couldn't tell, music is a huge part of my life. I can always find a song to relate my feelings to.

I also play a bit of guitar, piano, and I sing a bit. But not anything major or professional.

I have hair that's a color you don't see too often. It's mostly red-orange, but it has a bit of a dirty blonde hint to it. And my eyes are a sparkling emerald green.

I've been told many times that I'm "pretty" and "beautiful", but I don't see it. I look like the average teenage girl that you'd find in any average high school.

But since today was my first day in this new high school, and it's the middle of the year, I've decide to try to look better than usual, since I want to make friends.

I put on some concealer to cover up any blemishes on my sun-tanned skin. Then I applied black liquid eyeliner and winged it out a bit, like a normally do. I put eyeliner on my bottom waterline, applied mascara to make my eyes pop, and finished with a strawberry-colored lipstick.

As for my outfit, I wanted to be unique. So, I wore a pink and cream colored floral dress that stopped right above my knee. To finish off my outfit, I put on my black leather boots and my black leather jacket. I looked cute and punk at the same time.

I curled my gold-ish hair into small wringlets that hung at the bottom of my back.

When I looked at my final appearance in the mirror, I wasn't pleased - as always. But, it's the best I could do, so I grabbed my bag and headed towards my bus stop. I was the only one at my stop, since I was the only 16 year old near here who owned an apartment alone. I pulled out my phone and saw that I was a bit early, so I scrolled through twitter till the bus came.

When the bus pulled up, the hairs on the back of my neck stood straight up. It was the first time anyone here would see me, and I was hoping they thought I at least looked decent.

I climbed onto the bus and took the first open seat I saw. I instantly put in my headphones and played my music, hoping to tune out the comments being made about me. I was about 3 songs into my playlist, staring out the window, when my earbud was ripped from my ear.

I shot my glare over to who had done that.

A boy who looked maybe a year or two older than me was looking at me.

I studied his features, since he'll end up being the first person I meet in this town.

He had golden hair that sparkled as the sun shone on it through the window. It was a bit curly, and not too long but not too short. His eyes were a beautiful shade of hazel that looked partially green in the sun. And best of all, he had a huge smile with teeth that shone brighter than anything on him. It made me smile right back at him.

"Hi!" he shouted a bit too loud, being he was sitting right next to me. He took my hand and shook it, and I could feel the energy running through him. "I'm Ashton Irwin! You must be new. What's your name?"

"Hi. I'm Rose Tomsen. Nice to meet you!" I answered back.

We talked the whole bus ride to school. He's two years older than me, just as I thought. He has a really great taste in music, and it's practically the same as mine! He's even in a band called '5 Seconds of Summer'. He overall seemed like a really fun guy to be with. So, I decided he'd be a great first friend in this town.

I guess this was a good way to start the day.
