A thick layer of snow covered the ground, it had snowed hard the previous night. April sat beside the closed window, watching fluffy flakes of snow gently land.
"Your turn," a voice called bringing her back into reality.
She looked at the chess board and moved a piece, and smirked at Owen. He smiled back and moved a piece, "checkmate," he growled before laughing as her face fell.
"Not fair!" She said smiling, "rematch?"
"No. This old man needs his nap," he said stretching, "but, Judith can play with you," he said waving as he walked away.
Judith jumped into the chair Owen had just vacated, "you look happy," she said as April arranged the figures on the board.
"Like, you are literally glowing. How do you do it?" Judith asked.
"Do what?" April asked.
"Look like that."
April shrugged and went back to what she was doing.
"You know," Judith began, twirling a piece of her hair, "I came by your room this morning to ask if you wanted to have breakfast together...do you want to know what I heard?" she asked with a sly grin.
"No! Judith, I don't want to know. Not now, not ever," April stated trying hard to ignore Judith's bark of laughter. She threw a chess piece at her as she wiggled her brows suggestively.
"Ugh! You are so annoying," April groaned and leaned back in her chair.
"I know," Judith said with a satisfied smile. "So, you told him?" She asked relaxing back in her chair.
April sighed, she knew what Judith was talking about. "No, I have not."
"What? Why?" Judith asked completely baffled.
"I don't know. It didn't seem like the right time to me," April said rubbing her brows.
"Oh. You were too busy getting it on to remember," Judith deadpanned.
"No! I found out something else. He had a wife, and she left him two years ago. That's what we were talking about, and I didn't want to sprout the news like that."
"I didn't know he was married."
"Neither did I. And I don't think father knew either."
There was silence before Judith spoke, "well, it does not matter. She left. You are here now, and you need to tell him. Right now."
"I already told you, I'm not ready," April protested.
"And I heard you. That's what you said yesterday, you couldn't tell him. And the day before, you couldn't, and the day before, and the day before, and the..."
"I get it! God! You can be so annoying," April said glaring at Judith who just smiled sweetly.
"I know right," she said still smiling.
"It was not a compliment, do not take it as one." April said dryly.
"You know, I think I just saw him pass through here not too long ago. You and I are going to tell him right now," she said getting on her feet, "let's go."
"But I am not ready!"
"You will never be ready April. You just have to do it. Besides, I really don't care if you are ready or not," she said pulling April to her feet. They passed through the hall where some warriors lounged around the fire talking, some played games. They usually were training, but with the snow, there was not much they could do.
Judith spotted a servant and they went over to meet her. The girl bowed deeply as she saw them approaching.
"Where is Ian?" Judith asked and April scoffed. With Judith, it was always straight to the point.
"I saw him at the stables some..." She hadn't finished the statement when Judith pulled April away.
The cold wind hit them as Judith opened the door, and April shivered.
"I wish you'd let me bring my cloak," she grumbled and rubbed her hands together. She tugged on the sleeves of her gown."Oh shut it. It's not going to take time. The sooner you get it done, the faster you can go inside. Now, this is what you are going to do, once you see him, you will run to him and kiss him soundly on the lips."
April turned to look at her incredulously but Judith continued, "then, you will say, my darling king...I. Am. With. Child.. That should do it, right?"
"Yes, it will," April said with a sweet smile. "But, I am not you, so I am NOT doing that nonsense," April said trying to stifle a laugh at the silly scene Judith had conjured.
"But it is good," Judith whined as they came upon the stables. The doors were opened slightly. Judith opened it wider, and they both walked in. The smell of horses and hay, and dump hit them, and Judith scrunched up her nose.
"Do not complain, you brought me here," April said amused. The horses turned to look at them with their big brown eyes.
"I will wait here," Judith said and April nodded, walking further into the building. She got to the stall of Alfie, Ian's horse. A big black stallion with a temper. It came close to her and she took it's large face in her hands and rubbed it. It nickered and sniffed at her clothes, hoping for a treat, and when it didn't find one, it lost interest in her.
She laughed as she petted it. Feisty. Just like it's master. Speaking of which, she looked round but could not find him. Alfie's stall was the last stall with a horse. The stalls after were empty.
"I do not think he is here," she called out to Judith.
"Alright. Let's go, you will tell him later."
April gave the horse one last pet and turned to go when she heard a noise. "Wait! I think I heard something."
She walked past Alfie's stall, closer to the end of the building, she began hearing moaning.
"Mm, yes, just like that."
April recognized it as Freyrs voice and she sighed. What poor, misfortunate soul was she humping now? And she did not even have the decency to get a room.
She shook her head and turned to leave when she actually heard what Freyr was moaning."Hmm, yes Ian, yes. Oh my king, you are so good. Rough, just how you like it. Fill me up like you always do. Fill me up with that big..."
April tuned out the rest as she gasped and placed her hand over her mouth. Tears clouded her vision. He was with her, again? Even after he had promised! Rough? Just how he liked it? She turned and sprinted past Judith into the keep. She heard Judith calling her, but she didn't stop running till she got to her room.
Once there, she flung herself on her bed as the tears poured down in torrents. Hours just after he had been with her, he went back to that...man whore. He had never been rough with her, so he chose to find pleasure outside.
Wasn't she enough that he had to go and meet another woman? Freyr! Of all people. A knock sounded on the door, and she held her breath.
"April? Baby are you alright?"
It was Judith, but April could not bring herself to answer.Judith knocked some more before finally giving up and leaving. April buried her face in the pillow.
Freyr was right. He always ran back to her. After everything, he went back.
*******
Freyr got up and smoothed her hair back. She stared down at the warrior she had lured to the stables as she wiped herself clean with a napkin. Of course he had followed her. Men would always follow to have a taste of what they didn't have. He snaked a hand up to grab her ass, and she smacked it away.
"Not a word of this to anyone," she said and trailed a finger down the side of his face, "and you can have this again. Do you understand?" She asked.
He nodded eagerly, and she smirked before leaving him.
