"Andra, it is time."
The mellifluous voice spoke softly, though its possessor needn't raise his voice to make someone listen. It was the type of voice that was entrancing. A voice that one could listen to for an eternity and never tire of.
The girl's eyes fluttered open, blinking rapidly to adjust to the sunlight streaming in from the...tent flaps?
Andie sat up abruptly, immediately regretting it when her vision blurred for a few moments as the blood rushed to her head. Recovering, she took in her surroundings. The tent was bare, with the exception of the cot she was resting on.
That and, of course, the Great Lion Himself.
His mane was full and golden, and some might say that from certain angles, it had a hint of luster. His eyes were like galaxies, holding the weight of the world in two deep, melancholy orbs. The Lion was no doubt an Elysian being; one didn't have to know him to see his greatness.
She wasn't sure where the memory had come from, but the name rolled off her tongue as though she'd said it a thousand times. "Aslan."
"Come, dear one, there is little time."
Andie stumbled to her feet, struggling to recall anything that might have happened prior to her awakening. Her surroundings were foreign and she seemed to have been left with just enough memory to get by. When she racked her brain for details about herself or her life, however, she came up empty. She couldn't even remember going to sleep, let alone anything that might have happened before Aslan called upon her.
Aslan led Andie away from the camp, the incessant clangor of an army preparing for war dwindling as they went further. She felt the strangest sense of déjà vu as they passed, as if war was a concept she knew quite well. She couldn't shake the feeling that she should know who - or what - all of the creatures were and the reasoning behind their war preparations.
Something told her that she'd experienced war before and that it wouldn't be long before she revisted those horrors.
The path they followed soon gave way to a clearing, acres of green fields closed in by evergreen, redwood, spruce, and several other types of trees that Andie couldn't name. A strip of stables ran along either side, most of them empty.
Dozens of horses of all different coats grazed in the fields, lazily snacking on grass or drinking from the troughs that lined the stables. Several fauns - the name appeared in her memory as if it had been there all along - were maintaining the field, providing the horses with fresh oats and water, grooming them, and scooping manure.
As Andie scanned the fields, wondering why Aslan had brought her to the stables, her eyes landed on one particular horse, its coat completely black.
