"The mind forgets, but the heart will always remember. And what is the heart's memory but love itself?"
- Twan Eng Tan, The Gift of Rain

"We're finally alone."

Andie nervously clasped and unclasped her hands behind her back. The music from the ballroom was muffled, though she hardly noticed over the sound of her heartbeat in her ears. "It's awfully improper to be together unchaperoned."

"Why? We used to play together all the time when we were children."

"We weren't courting when we were children." She allowed her gaze to meet Andrew's, his chocolate brown eyes staring at her intensely, lacking all of the softness that could usually be found in his gaze. There was a faint smile playing at the corners of his mouth, but it seemed more threatening than pleasant.

"That doesn't mean anything has to change."

Andrew took a step towards her and she backed away instinctively.

"I should really be getting back now." Andie turned away, but his hand grabbed at her arm faster than she could get away.

"I think you should stay."

Andie awoke with a gasp, her heart pounding in her chest. Beads of sweat dripped down her forehead and she wiped them away, knowing her face was flushed. Her hands shook as she carefully stood and exited her tent, trying to figure out why she'd been woken so abruptly.

Not that she was complaining.

It had been years since that day made an appearance in her nightmares.

Stifling a yawn, Andie tried to recall the events of the night before. The Narnians had come forward to meet Caspian in response to Susan's horn. Arguments had broken out about Caspian's true loyalties and whether or not he was truly on their side.

In the end, they had come to the conclusion that Caspian would make Narnia free once again, in exchange for their help in taking back his throne.

The sun had yet to rise, but the sky had already begun to lighten, meaning that it wouldn't be long before it peeked out over the horizon. The Narnians were already hard at work, though they seemed to have abandoned their work to form a crowd.

Andie sleepily made her way towards them, already wishing she'd had a better dream and could have slept a bit longer. She doubted she would be able to fall back asleep now, though, for fear the dream might pick up where it left off.

She hadn't inherited much from her mother, but Andie did, however, inherit her mother's height - or lack thereof. She tried in vain to stand on her toes to see what was happening, going so far as to try to crawl between legs and hooves. That plan proved to be very dangerous and she quickly abandoned it, choosing instead to walk the long way around the crowd to the other side.
