The ropes dug into his wrists, no doubt rubbing them raw. His ankles were tied with chains and weighed down, making it nearly impossible to walk, let alone run away. They'd decided not to blindfold him, but he almost wished they had when he saw the sight in front of him.

He was flanked by soldiers, only able to get a glimpse of the room he'd dragged himself into. He wasn't sure if they were hiding him from everyone else or hiding everyone else from him.

After all, they hoped he'd be their greatest weapon.

Jack caught a glimpse of Miraz as he walked in, though the false king hadn't seemed to notice him. "Lords of the council, my apologies for being late. I was not aware we were in session."

"No doubt you were otherwise occupied." Jack was able to see the man who spoke and recognized him as Lord Sopespian.

"My lord?"

Another council member that Jack didn't recognize spoke up. "Ever since the death of Caspian the ninth, you have behaved as if you were king. And now it seems behind these walls, even Prince Caspian has gone missing."

Jack breathed a sigh of relief. If they believed Caspian to be missing, that meant he'd gotten away safely. He'd tried his best to keep the prince safe, but he was unaware of anything that had happened after he was captured. He'd been hoping the prince had gotten away, but a part of him had been worried that their hard work had been for nothing.

He should have known Andie would keep him safe.

Jack felt his eyes well up with tears at the thought of his sister and he quickly blinked them away, not wanting anyone to see him crying. He'd barely seen her before he was captured. He didn't know where she was or if she was safe. The last he saw of her, she had an arrow lodged in her gut.

He didn't know if she was even alive.

"My deepest condolences, Lord Miraz," Sopespian continued, "Imagine losing your nephew, the rightful heir to the throne, on the very night your wife has blessed you with a son." The room was quiet and tense as Sopespian's subtle accusation hung in the air.

Miraz seemed unfazed. "Thank you, Lord Sopespian. Your compassion is a boon in such troubled times."

"I trust you can tell us how such a tragedy could have occurred."

"That is the most disturbing news of all. Our beloved Caspian was abducted...by Narnians!"

Gasps arose among the councilmen. The room was suddenly very loud, everyone talking at once. "You go too far, Miraz! You expect us to stand by while you blame such a blatant crime on fairytales?"
