~~~I'll pick her up, and drop her off on the outskirts of our town~~~
"Ugh," (Y/N) groaned, stretching her sore arms and trying to stand up. Her head felt...cloudy, and her thoughts were all groggy. She was usually sharp as a kitchen knife, so what the hell had happened to her?
"Hey (Y/N)! You're finally awake!" A voice cried out. (Y/N) turned around--a lot slower than usual--to find a girl around her age standing three feet away from her. She was around five feet tall, give or take a few inches; bright auburn hair tied in a side braid with a green ribbon, jeans, a red plaid skirt, black shirt, and a leather jacket; freckles and crystal blue eyes; and a dangerously innocent smile. She seemed familiar; what was her name again?
"W-Who are you? Why am I here? Where am I?" She asked, completely confused. This girl was an absolute stranger to her.
The girl's wide smile quickly faded into a grimace. "What do you mean, 'who am I?' We're best friends!" She said with a voice like honey. This girl's name was on the tip of (Y/N)'s tongue...
"Uh, no, you're not my best friend. Sorry?" (Y/N) said cautiously.
"We were best friends in fifth grade. Did you forget about me so quickly?" The girl said. It might've been (Y/N)'s imagination, but the girl seemed to dissolve into shadow, leaving nothing behind.
"..." Was all (Y/N) said.
"Oh? Well, I certainly haven't forgotten you," the girl said, smiling that malevolent smile again from directly behind (Y/N)'s shoulder, making her gasp in surprise.
"Look, I obviously have never met you--"
"QUIET YOU LITTLE PIECE OF GARBAGE," the girl suddenly screeched. That certainly shut (Y/N) up.
Dakota. Her name was Dakota.
After a few seconds of deep breathing, Dakota returned to her composed state.
"Oh, I'm sure it's fine. I was hoping that you'd remember me, especially after...what happened. But then again, you didn't really remember much of anything, did you?" She said cryptically. "Run along home for now, little (Y/N). And remember." Suddenly, she did the creepy shadow thing and popped up right behind (Y/N) and whispered in her ear.
"You're mine only, (Y/N), and if anyone touches you, well...they're going to get a taste of my knives. And that's not a very pleasant taste at all. Especially that little runt. Hiro, wasn't it? We simply can't have him interfering with our plan."
And then, she was gone.
(Y/N) would never be able to sleep again.
Flashback:
(Y/N) was four months into the search for her parents as she stood on the front porch of her biggest lead yet.
385 Kanton Lane, home of (Y/N)'s grandmother.
When she knocked on the door, a girl with auburn hair tied with a green bow answered the door.
"Ma'am, I'm sorry, but Mrs. (L/N) is having an important nap right now," she said.
(Y/N) nodded. "Are you her caretaker?"
The girl paused for a moment before answering, "Yes." So, (Y/N) departed from her grandmother's house and back to her apartment in Chicago.
The next day in the newspaper, it announced that Mrs. (L/N) had been found in her bathroom tub, seeming to have committed suicide on the previous day. Staring at the article, (Y/N)'s eyes watered.
"I can't help but think that nurse was connected somehow," she mumbled to herself.
Little did she know how right she was.
