Page 79 – The Human Sacrifice

Not a joker mask like the Emperor’s soldiers. This one is a plane, emotionless black mask.

Pareho kaming napatigil sa pwesto. Kahit hindi ko kita ang buong mukha niya, bakas sa mga mata nito ang gulat.

That’s when it sank that I met my enemy before I drank the antidote which only means that the fight to death is inevitable.

I have a timer somewhere around my wrist. Passing a glance, I caught the time. Seven minutes remaining.

Suddenly, nagulat ako nang biglang sumugod yung taong nakamaskara, a man based on his attire and mold of his body.

Akmang susuntukin nito ako sa mukha na nasalag ko naman gamit ang aking braso. Grabbing his arm, I flipped it over, bend it from the back, and with my other hand, I pushed against the joint connecting his right arm and shoulder.

“Do we really need to do this? Kill each other?” I muttered. Hindi siya sumagot, instead he let gravity took him downward at dahil sa gulat, my grasp loosened.

Tinalakid niya ako. Shit.

I’m on my back against the forest floor while the masked person was hovering over me, his hand strangling my neck in a tight grasp.

Sa lapit ng mukha namin, I could closely observe his eyes. Dread came into me when I sensed familiarity from that stare. But this couldn’t be someone I know. He's trying to kill me, looking like he had no intention of stopping.

Holding his hand on my neck, I pierced his skin with a hidden blade on my ring. Surprised marked his face, grip loosening.

I punched him hard on the face. Hindi ko mapigilang mapasigaw sa sakit dahil tumama sa kamao ko yung metal niyang maskara. Distancing myself and standing with my knees bent prepared to attack before he could recover, napahinto ako nang mukhang naputol yung string ng maskara niya dahil sa atake ko. He was not facing me, rather his head was turned sideward.

The mask fell on the floor with a muffled thud. My eyes widened when finally, the man turned his head to directly stare at me.

“What a strong punch, my Queen.” Nanlambot ang katawan ko. Hindi makapaniwala kung sino ang nasa harapan ko.

Then anger took over. Everything he did flashed inside my head and there I am, above him, punching his face repeatedly. My own skin tearing and bleeding because of the strength of my attacks.

Nang napansin kong hindi siya lumalaban, na wala man lang siyang ginagawa para depensahan ang sarili, I stopped, “Fight! Fight me!”

Naoe just stared at me with a light smile on his battered face, “Go ahead,” saad niya, “Kill me, my Queen. My life is yours.”
