Allison's POV 13
I was the last to reach the pegasi because of my backpack. I had brought the biggest backpack from my house because I wanted to bring a lot of stuff to camp: clothes, money, another pair of shoes, books, my toiletries, and the bag of barbecue chips for Connor. I told my family about camp, but my dad had already known, apparently, my real mom had told him around the time I was born. I didn't have enough time to explain everything in full detail, but my dad promised that he would explain everything to the rest of my family.
When I got to the pegasi, I saw that Cherry and Malcolm were already there. Cherry was saying something to Malcolm about beating him, and Malcolm was trying to ignore her.
"Hey guys," I said, "ready to go?"
"Yeah," Cherry and Malcolm said at the same time, then looked at each other angrily. What was going on with those two? I guess they didn't like each other because neither of them said anything on the way to camp, so I focused on the ground below. I had been scared of heights my whole life, and being over a thousand feet above the ground didn't make me feel any better. Somehow, I was pretty good at riding a pegasus. I didn't know how, since I'd only ridden a horse once at the zoo. I didn't dwell on it too much, because the less I thought about heights, the better.
When we got back to camp, some campers took our pegasi back to the stables, and I headed to Cabin 11 to put my stuff away. I somehow managed to fit everything in my trunk, even my empty backpack. The cabin was pretty empty, but I still locked my trunk. There were only two other campers in the cabin, and I wondered where everyone else went. I assumed they were all doing something outside. Even though this was the last week of school and camp hadn't officially started, campers still had optional activities and classes during the day.
Since I had some time to myself, I decided to read a book. I was so absorbed in my book that I didn't even notice when Connor climbed onto my bunk.
"You like to read?" he asked.
"What? Oh, I love reading," I replied, startled.
"Isn't it hard for you?" Connor said.
"Yeah," I responded, "how did you know?"
"It's a demigod thing," he said, "we're dyslexic because our brains are hardwired for Ancient Greek."
"Huh, so are there any books in Ancient Greek here at camp?" I asked.
"Yeah, you'd need to learn how to read Ancient Greek first, but the Athena cabin has tons of books in Ancient Greek. If you decide to go in there, let me warn you, they hate spiders, so do not play a prank on them involving spiders. I speak from experience," he said, and shuddered, probably remembering how the Athena cabin had gotten back at him for his prank. "And all children of Athena are super smart, so don't insult their intelligence unless you want to deal with the consequences."
I had a feeling that he was speaking from experience about that too.
"So, just be nice to them and don't mention spiders, got it," I said.
"Yup, pretty much," he said. "Oh! I almost forgot." Connor took something small out of his pocket, "Close your eyes," he said.
"Are you gonna prank me?" I asked.
"No," he said, "just close your eyes."
I closed my eyes and I felt Connor grab my hand and slip something on my arm.
"Okay, you can open your eyes now," he said.
I looked at my arm and saw a bracelet. It had alternating light and dark blue beads, and in the middle, it said "Allie & Connor" with lettered beads.
"I made this for you while you were gone, at arts and crafts. Do you like it?" Connor said and looked at me with a hopeful smile on his face.
I could've pranked him and said I hated the bracelet, but I decided not to. "I love it," I said, and hugged him. I guess he wasn't expecting the hug because it took him a second to hug me back. "I'm going to wear it all the time," I said, and the smile on Connor's face was bigger than it had been all day.
"Great!" he said, "And I have the matching one so we can twin." He showed me his bracelet, and it was exactly the same as mine except for the order of our names were switched.
I was about to speak when I heard some kind of horn. I looked at Connor, confused.
"What's that horn for?" I asked.
"Dinner," he said, "get ready for the best food you've ever tasted."
