Cherry's POV 10
I couldn't believe Malcolm just saw that. I couldn't believe that just happened. Actually, I did not know what happened...I could list 10, no 11 reasons why today was weird. And the day wasn't even over yet.
After running out of the woods, I ran to the bathroom and splashed my face. At least I hoped it was a sink...
Anyways, I walked out and I decided that what happened so far wasn't going to get to me. I could survive. I always have. My plan of action: find someone nice, ask them to give me a tour, and ask them to answer my questions (why am I here, what is this place, when could I leave, what were half-bloods, what did Malcolm mean by saying half-human, etc).
I strolled out of the bathroom and saw a beautiful, blonde-haired girl who seemed about my age. Her nose was buried in a book. The people who like books tend to be nice people...right?
"Hey there," I said tentatively, "My name is Cherry. I just got dropped off here by a taxi and was just wondering what this place is."
I waited a few seconds. The blonde didn't move or respond to me at all.
"Um, hello?" I said louder, waving my hand in front of her.
"Oh hey," she said. "So sorry, I get completely enraptured by books sometimes that I don't even notice anything around me. What did you say again?"
I was absolutely stunned by her brilliant, gray eyes. Wait, didn't Malcolm look a lot like her? I was wondering if I should ask someone else.
"Oh, um, I'm Cherry. I just got here recently, and I was wondering if you could give me a tour and answer some of my questions. Actually, a dude named Malcolm was supposed to give me a tour, but he rudely blew me off. I would be so grateful if you could help me out."
"Don't worry, I know this place like the back of my hand. I'll show you around. Malcolm is actually my brother, and when he is working on something, he can't do anything else. However, you should look out for Connor and Travis Stoll. They will steal the clothes off your skin and fill your bed with spiders," she said while shivering from fear.
"Oh, and by the way, I'm Annabeth, daughter of Athena," she declared with a smart, confident glint in her eye. I liked her instantly. I knew she was someone who I could count on.
"Wait, what do you mean 'Daughter of Athena?'" I asked. "Isn't Athena some goddess or something?"
"Oh, you don't know...well, you see, have you always felt different? Have you seen things that others just don't seem to see?" Annabeth asked.
"Oh yes, that is definitely true," I replied, "but what does that have anything to do with-"
"Do you ever have difficulty reading and understanding the English language?" she continued.
"Yes, but-"
"Do you ever feel like there is more to your life than there seems, and that there is more that you just do not know?" Annabeth asked.
"Well, I guess so; however,-"
"There is a reason for all of those weird traits. We are half-bloods, demigods. Half-god, half-human. I don't know how to break it to you lightly, but one of your parents is a Greek god," Annabeth admitted.
Half-bloods? I guess we do keep all our blood in this camp, but this was some other stuff. I wondered if this girl was okay. "Um, are you okay? I can recommend to you my school nurse, but all she can give you is ice. Ohhhhhh wait, you want to play goddesses? Sure! But can you show me around first?"
"Nonononono!" Annabeth insisted. "We truly are. Many of the campers here have powers or enhanced abilities from their parent. Here, let me show you." She pulled out a Yankees baseball cap from her pocket and put it on. As soon as she put it on, she disappeared. Completely. Then, she reappeared, hat in hand. "See, this cap was from my mom, Athena, goddess of wisdom. It lets me turn invisible. Pretty fitting for a demigod..."
"Wait, what? So, the gods are real? And they have kids? And all those kids have issues?" I asked. [A/N: This is a reference to something, comment below if you get it :) ]
"Yeah basically. You are taking this very well. Better than most...better than everyone else actually. Here let me show you around," Annabeth said.
After 30 minutes, I got the basic layout of this camp. I couldn't wait to stay here. It was much better than all my foster homes so far combined. "How about that tree over there? The tree on the hill? I have been drawn to that ever since I got here," I said.
"Oh, that was...that is a friend. She protects this entire camp," she said sullenly. Her whole mood changed entirely. I instantly felt bad for asking the question and decided not to pry further. "Here, let me show you your cabin. You will be staying here until we know who your godly parent is," Annabeth added suddenly.
Annabeth brought me to one of the cabins. I walked inside and saw...Allison? Flirting?
"Allison?"
