Cherry's POV 20

"Who's there!" I yelled.

"The speaker of riddles. The lover of mystery. The escort to the beginning of their history," a spooky voice uttered.

"Stop speaking nonsense! Where are you! Who are you? Where am I!" my voice echoed into the distance. Dark mist surrounded me, but not regular mist. It was almost like the mist was... personified. It moved in the corner of my eyes and crept up behind me from every direction. I shivered. What was happening?

"She has a grave fate, young soul. Earth born, her destiny untold," it continued in broken phrases.

"What?! What are you saying?! Earth born? Who?! Where?!" I asked in confusion.

"M-Ma-Matriarch...L-L-Lost Soul...CONTROL...D-R-Dr-Dreams...Land Of-"

"STOP!" I screamed, shocked and terrified.

All of a sudden, an immense silence took over and I was at camp. Wait, I was in a different part of camp. A strange, dark place. I looked around, but no one seemed to notice that I was standing here. A bright, shining door stood before me. A warm wind surrounded me as I entered to find a horrible, decomposing corpse of a body. I tried to turn and run away, but I couldn't seem to move. All of a sudden, it's eyes lit up.

I sat up, sweating and panting. I looked around. I was just in my cabin bunk, in Cabin 11, in the morning. Typical morning, right? Goosebumps littered my arms and I shivered, remembering my dream. What was that? Ahhhhh, I swear, if someone secretly started taking half my blood during my sleep, I'm telling Allison to hand over the $20 from our bet about what "Half Blood" meant. It would explain all of my scary dreams.

Speaking of Allison, I couldn't believe she got claimed by Aphrodite! I mean, I could see how she was an Aphrodite kid, but I kinda wanted her to stay in Cabin 11 with the Stolls, our cabin mates, and me. It sucked that we wouldn't be in the same cabin anymore, but I thought it would still be fine because we would have Arts and Crafts and our electives together. Ooooooooo, just between you and me, I saw Connor walk Allison to her new cabin last night, and when he got to his bunk, I swear he glowed for practically the next 2 hours. No, I'm serious, it was to a point that crossed cute or funny. He kept mumbling "Allison" and shuffling around and smiling like the creepo he is. Travis kept kicking his bunk to shut up. I think I did too. Let's just say I got less than 5 hours of sleep, which was HALF THE SLEEP I USUALLY GET!!!

Anyways, Allison was really busy nowadays with practicing her new powers. She was really excited when she first found out her power and she was always running around practicing it. Sometimes, I would worry that she would charmspeak me, but it hadn't happened yet. At least, not to my knowledge....

I was kind of jealous that Allison got claimed. We have both been at camp for about a week now. When would my godly parent claim me? Do they not want to? I mean, ok, I wouldn't want to claim me and my disgusting morning breath self either, but come on. I can't control that. It would be so cool to be the child of Athena, or Demeter, or Ares, or Apollo, or Hermes, or really anyone. At first, I was picky. Now, I just wanted any god at all, even a minor one.

"Still overthinking about parents," Malcolm laughed, appearing out of nowhere.

"Why do you care?" I glared. "Just you wait, I will get claimed by a god very, VERY soon in the coolest flipping way."

"You really need to be more chill. You have only been here, what, a few days? Allison is a lucky case. Most campers get claimed in months or even years," he stated.

"You're one to talk. You got claimed on your second day of being here, according to Holly's praises of you," I added sarcastically. Holly Chazos was this annoying child of Demeter who had a not-so-secret crush on Malcolm. Not that it bothered me. It was annoying.

"That is because I am special and smart. Allison is too. That's why we got claimed early."

"Are you hinting I'm stupid!" I glared.

"Ha! Looks like you aren't completely dumb!" Malcolm laughed.

"Ugh. Moron!" I yelled.

"Brainless."

"Idiot!" I replied, hoping he wouldn't say what I thought he would say next.

"Unintelligible imbecile," he remarked with contempt. Ugh, I still need to look up what that means. Doesn't help that a dictionary is almost nowhere to be found. Plus, I didn't even know how to spell those words when I did find a dictionary.

Knowing he won, he smirked. I jabbed him in the arm.

"Ow!" he jerked his arm away from me and scrambled away. "Why do your knuckles hurt so much?!"

Laughing, I patted his arm.

All of a sudden, a stunning owl flew in and landed on Malcolm's arm. Surprised and intrigued, I cooed and petted his head.

"Get away from Lucky!" he snarled.

"Calm down! He's just so cute and adorable. His name is Lucky? Aww that is such a cute name. Aren't you the cutest little owl," I said.

Malcolm stared at me weirdly and then looked at Lucky with a hint of betrayal. Lucky hopped onto my lap and rubbed his head on my stomach. Awwwwwww. I always had a natural connection with animals and I absolutely loved this cutie. Lucky was a pure white owl the size of Malcolm's brain (which is very small). Needless to say, Lucky was a very tiny owl.

"Hi Lucky. How are you doing today?" I asked, receiving a cute peck on my arm."How did you meet Lucky?" I asked Malcolm.

Glaring at Lucky, he responded "Lucky guided me to Camp somehow. He never really shows himself to anyone else. He only shows up every year or so, almost as if to check up every once in a while. I don't know why he has taken to you so much."

"It's all my charm," I joked. After hopping onto Malcolm's arm one more time, Lucky flew away into the forest.

"What charm?" Malcolm jeered.

"What!" I quickly turned around to find Malcolm running away cheering. Stupid Malcolm. This was the first time meeting a person that I disliked this much. I was against hating people 'cuz I didn't know what they were going through and the world had enough hate. However, this was too far. I just might have to hate him after all.

You know what: I would make an award for him some day in Arts and Crafts. A "First Person that I Ever Hated" Award. Perfect. Grinning and hatching my evil plan, I began walking to Cabin 11.

Half an hour later, I was strolling camp with Allison when all of a sudden, someone was yelling our names.

"Allison! Cherry!" I turned around to see Travis sprinting in our direction. "Come quick! There's a monster at camp!"
