Avoid

Chapter 50

    I was working a shift at the hospital.. I'd gone on my dinner break I'd become friends with Alex the guy who was studying to be a doctor.
   He often asked me if I was sleeping ok. My eyes  must of looked bad due to lack of sleep.
    My dinner break was soon up.. when I walked into the the staff room. Jane asked me to come with her while she checked on a lady.
   I was stood observing... when a little boy tugged at my clothes.
  "Is my mums baby coming out yet?"
I looked down at him he looked familiar..

    "Not yet but soon.. you looking forward to being a big brother?" I asked.
   "Yes I am. Where's your boyfriend?"
I stiffened a little at his words. "My boyfriend?"
    "The man with the big muscles and black hair who looked like superman."
I couldn't help but giggle...  he thought Mateo looked like superman when really he was the villain aka bad boy. I then realised this boy was the one Teo had spoke to in the shop the first day we was on our way to his grandma's.
    "He's umm, probably at home sketching he likes to draw."
    I didn't tell him we weren't together anymore it was pointless.
    "I like drawing too. He's right you are the prettiest star." He smiled shyly.
   "Mateo said that?"
     "Yeah I told him I thought you was pretty. He said yes you were and how one day I'd find my own pretty star, he said everyone had one. He said his was extra special though, how you were the prettiest star in his sky."
   "Did he... did he say anything else?" I dared to ask.
He nodded smiling asking me to kneel down so I did.
    "He did, he said you were the only star for him and that he loved his star very much but that you didn't know it yet."
He coughed.."Once you find your special star you should never let go of it. I can't wait to find mine."
   He had the cheekiest smile which reminded me of Mateo. Tears threatened to spill...
     "I get the feeling yours is gonna be a special one and one that's gonna be lucky to have you. If you'll excuse me I have to go to the bathroom."

   I went to the bathroom and my tears slowly rolled down my face... Not now I'm at work. I washed my face with cold water. I can't believe he'd told him he loved his star ..me? But never told me himself. If this was true why didn't he tell me he loved me before all this?
   I counted down the hours.. roll on finish time..

    When I got home I deleted my voicemails from him. I couldn't bare to hear his voice yet I'd fall to pieces. Lisa came round to bring me my letters.
One was my phone bill.. the next was the calm before the storm.

It was a letter from a solicitor??..
Oh. My. Word. Is this some sort of joke. Someone had left half of their house to me? Why? and most importantly Who?
    This surely can't be right!
My heart nearly fell out.. when I realised who.. no no this can't be happening!!! Mateo's grandma?
Again tears fell fast for the hundredth time... my heart ached and hurt how much more could I take.
She had sadly passed away.

    All I wanted was to ring Mateo naturally and look after him, comfort him, I'd grown close to her she was an amazing woman. I can't believe it. She was the only good thing he had left and now she was gone.
    This all still didn't make sense why she'd left half the house to me ... oh lord and half to him?
I don't want it he can have it all it was his grandma after all. She wasn't my grandma, I am not accepting it no way! Not a chance.
   The lighting flashes and the thunder rolls...
