Savannah's POV
I looked at the woman in confusion as she asked me what I assumed to be in Spanish, "Quièn eres?".I studied her face and thought I recognized that from somewhere. She had facial features that seemed familiar. She had long brown wavy hair and a bronze skin tone with slight wrinkles. Her eyes were the same warm brown ones that Sebastian had, except hers were more sharp and hostile. That's what it clicked.
"You're Sebastian's mother, aren't you?" I asked.
She glared at me and looked me up and down, "So, you're the girlfriend that's taken over my son's apartment."
I heard Sebastian yell from afar inside the house, "Ma, who is it?".
He came to the door all dressed up. He looked at me in confusion before realization flickered upon his face. "Shit, I totally forgot to pick you up. I'm sorry, Savannah. I thought we would be done by now."
I raised my eyebrows at him and questioned him, "Why didn't you tell me your mother was coming to visit Sebastian? I would've stayed to greet her."
Sebastian looked at his mom who gave him a domineering look. "It's complicated. I'll explain everything in a bit. For now, come inside and Mom, for God's sake, go put some clothes on."
His mom glared at me once more before going to the bedroom to change, opening the doorway so I could finally come inside. Sebastian was dressed up in a dark blue up button shirt and slacks with loafers. I looked at him and teased, "Going on a date tonight?".
He sighed and said, "I wish I was. Then, this wouldn't be so complicated."
I reached for his hand and tugged him toward the couch to sit down, "Love, what's going on? You can tell me."
He cradled my cheek and kissed me gently, "I'm sorry for not telling you. I just didn't want you to worry or be distracted from your first day. How did your first day go anyways?".
I smiled and said, "It was amazing. I made a new friend, but that's beside the point. What's going on?".
He sighed and caved in, "Okay, okay. The truth is my mom came out of rehab recently. Apparently, she's going really well and has been sober for six months. Now she's trying to get Myra and Luis back, but for the past couple of years they've been with their foster family and were actually in the process of getting adopted."
"Okay," I said, motioning for him to carry on.
"Well, in order to prove to the courts that she's a suitable caregiver for the kids, she needs housing and a job. She doesn't have a job or housing. So, she asked me for help. I hadn't seen her in years, so I just was in shock when she called and agreed to help her out. She's going to stay with us for a while, and maybe bring the kids here too. I know I should've asked you when she called, but I
didn't. I'm sorry, " he said. This was good news. After knowing everything his mother went through, I was happy that she was going better. It also allowed Sebastian to reconnect with his family. Maybe this would even help come to terms with his guilt about calling cps and them separating his siblings. I looked up at him smiled, "You shouldn't have to ask, silly. This is your apartment after all. I'm really happy for you! I'll make sure to make your mom feel welcome, along with kids if they come!".
