Chapter 8

Allen

Ari holds my hand in hers. "There is nothing like what you are thinking." She assures and squeezes my hand. I close my eyes for a moment and then look at her. It was like I almost crossed the threshold of hell and came back. "It's...it is....I haven't kissed anyone before." She tells me in one breath, very fast that for a moment I couldn't understand what she was speaking.

"What?" I ask her taken aback arresting the smile. "Yeah you heard it right. That was my first kiss and I was a bit anxious. So..." She shook her head looking down at her feet. I bring my hands to her back and pull her to my chest enjoying the relief in light chuckles. I felt like was about to see the Lucifer but somehow came back. "Harris told me that you are a virgin. I'm sorry. It was my entire fault. I should have taken things a bit slower but I am glad I am your first kiss and will be first in everything." My words fell ardent kissing her head that was nuzzled in the crook of my neck.

In due course of time Harris became hale and healthy and returned home with a lot of happiness in making preparations for mine and Ari's marriage. He booked the most famous Saint Plymouth Congregational Church in Miami for the wedding. In spite of my repeated arguments he took the pains to get the wedding cards printed. He personally went, fixed the date and requested the priest to make time for the biggest day of our lives. To describe his joy was tough, he was in seventh heaven like a little boy blowing the candles on his birthday cake.

Everything was planned according to the schedule. I and Ari went for cake tasting and her dress shopping fifteen days before the wedding. I took her to one of opulent, well known shops in the city. Ari tried innumerable dresses designed by distinguished designers to please me resisting her restiveness but I wasn't satisfied with any of them. The world famous mafia leader Harris Richmond's daughter and the 'wife to be' of a most renowned orthopedic surgeon Allen Rodriguez shouldn't look any less than a fairy dropping from a fairy land on her wedding day.

Finally I contacted the famous Russian designer Galia Lahav. Known as titan in the world of haute couture and bridal gowns Galia gave me righto inspite of her busy schedule. Aria's dress was designed by her that was simply exquisite. The gown had round neck with intricate embroidery on the chest area that had flown down in elaborate trains and elegant artistry. In short the designer dress was a master piece unto itself.

Five days later..

It was finally the day of my wedding with the belle of my dreams. I couldn't sleep the complete night. Anticipation of seeing her was bringing goosebumps. How would she look in her wedding gown? The entire cells in my body were on a riot unable to function engulfed in the feeling of blissfulness. I was dressed in a black tuxedo with matching pants and a coat with a white shirt underneath. My hair was midnight black, neatly jelled, cut and combed to perfectly frame the strong planes of my face. I was standing beside the priest in the church waiting for her. My friend Augustus was the best man standing on the other side. He was trying to pull a conversation in order to rest me of my pensiveness.

My eyes firstly rest on Stacy sitting in the front row who is like a mother to me. She was dressed in a turquoise colour gown. Her aged countenance looked graceful with the brightness that reflected her face. Next to her seated was my sister Julie. She was waving to me with a cute smile that was as radiant as a fresh lily dazzling in ecstasy.

I then cast my glance at the various guests who came to grace me and Ari on this beautiful occasion and bless us during the cherished ceremony of our lives. The venue felt jubilant and delightful filled with conversations of mirth and glee between friends and relations.

I look at my watch and as if on call the music started playing. Heads turn back and I follow their eyes watching the prettiest woman ever arrived on earth walk down the grand foyer. My system seemed to have halted. The world around me stopped bringing the universe to a standstill as my eyes concluded on her.

Taking a long quivering breath I watch her walk in slow steps along with Harris who held her hand. His face was bursting in joy like the crackers in the sky during New Year. I had never seen Harris so happy and knowing that I was partly the reason for his happiness my excitement had crossed all the borders. He whispered something into Ari's ears and cast a glance towards me to which Ari gave a bashful smile, her eyes in shyness directed to her feet.

She looked like a fallen Angel walking towards me and I knew every hot blooded male seated here at the venue would suck in his breathe and cuss me for the lucky bastard that I am in marrying such a mesmerizing siren. Her blond hair was neatly modelled in a bun with a few strands left lose falling in curls on either side of her face. She was carrying a bouquet of beautiful white roses.

I exhale the air I kept holding back since the time I entered the church. I know she would look breathe taking in her wedding attire but couldn't imagine she would cross all the boundaries of my fascination that words would fall short in my dictionary to describe her beauty. "Take care of my daughter Allen." Harris speaks in a deep velvety voice and puts Ari's fragile shaking hand in mine.

"I will, Harris." I answer him in determination and held Ari's soft shivering hands in firmness bringing her closer to me. Looking down my eyes discern in detail every bit of her inviting features that were covered in a floral embroidered veil. A sense of pride envisages in me telling the world that she was mine now.

Her sweet floral scent of rose and jasmine filled my nostrils and eases my fidgety nerves. I secernate her long slender fingers which casually brush mine bringing in feelings of exultance and an awakening of intimate thoughts. She looked like a pristine queen walking in for a beauty contest.

The ceremony began and my heart skipped a beat. Harris looks towards me and nods with a smile, a silent assurance that everything would go on well seating himself in the front row of guests beside my sister. The priest initiates the process and I begin to say the vows. The moment felt like the bliss of a spirit as though I was entering the gates of heaven.

I Allen Rodriguez take you Arianna Richmond

To be my wife

To have and to hold

From this day forward

For better and for worse

For richer and poorer

In sickness and in health

To love and to cherish

Till death do us apart

According to God's holy law

And this is my solemn vow

Ari repeats after me. Everything around felt like haze like all this was a paradise in which I was living. The smile on my face doesn't seem to stop and I was beaming to the guests like a halfwit idiot as though I had done the greatest discovery in the history of mankind. The priest holds a pair of rings forward with an understanding smile.

"With this ring I thee wed." I declare in an overpowering delight holding Ari's hand and push the ring on her ring finger. She repeats the same after me. "With the power vested in me I now pronounce you as man and a wife. You may now kiss the bride." The priest announces. Taking a deep breath I close my eyes for a second and hold up the wail of Ari.

The next second what I saw blew me out of the water. Ari's eyes were droopy, red and shedding tears. She leans forward and drops her hands on either side of me slumping unconscious.

One of my hands holds her in place and the other reaches for her pulse to perceive it was an attempt to suicide.

Omg that was unexpected. Isn't it?
