Chapter 11

Allen

"What did you just say?" The words came out appalled out of my lips. Arianna took a deep breath closing her eyes and repeated her words. "I said - I am in love with someone else Allen." I walked umbrageous towards her holding her upper arm in a devil's grip. "How could you dare lie to me and bring me into this traversed derisive wedlock, Arianna?" She tries to free her arm from my grip looking down. "Please leave me Allen, it is paining."

I withdraw my hold from her hand with a jerk and she hits her back to the bedpost making a hiss. "Why didn't you tell about your relationship to your father?" A tear falls out of her eyes on the back side of her palm and she quickly wipes it away with her other hand. "I was frightened to confess my feelings to him."

"You were frightened? Who gave you the right to destroy my life, damn it?" I shout my words to her in untameable fury and she shudders under my articulation. "Please be calm, people can hear us." Calmness, my foot I was nothing close to calmness. "Why should I be circumcised into this loveless marriage going a prey for your timidity?" She looks me with her tear stricken eyes. "I am sorry Allen. I didn't mean to hurt you." A hysteric laugh erupts out of my lips. "Sorry, just a sorry, is everything going back to normal with your sorry Arianna?"

I was beyond irritated now. "I may not have fallen in love with someone like you but I consider marriage as a sacred union of two individual souls. I had many beautiful thoughts on love built up for the girl I marry Arianna and you had destroyed every one of my dreams perfectly. You have no right to play with my feelings. I had been used like a scapegoat in your derisory game."

She holds her hands against her ears and screams. "For God's sake I tried committing a suicide, Allen. I did not want to involve you in this mess. Why did you save me?" For a few seconds there was a pin drop silence in the room. I look around to confirm all the doors and windows of the room are closed so that no one was hearing us. "I will go out and see how the dinner preparations are going."

My house was full of friends and colleagues from the hospital who attended my wedding a few hours back. Everybody was relieved when they learnt that Arianna was fine. Drinks were served in the midst of hearty smiles and mouth watering snacks. Harris was as happy as a clam when he learnt his daughter was perfect in health. "You shouldn't drink so much Harris considering your weak heart." I tried to take away the glass of scotch from his hands but he stops me. "Today is the day I am supposed to drink and enjoy young man. I have fulfilled all my promises to Mercy. Now I can face the gates of heaven and meet her with no remorse." He lifts his glass to everyone and beams. "Cheers to all guests attending the marriage party of my only daughter Arianna, with the one and only charming prince Dr Allen Rodriguez." He taps my shoulder with pride and excitement in his eyes, just as how he used to watch me during my achievements listening praises of my teachers.

Little did he know of Arianna's farcical stunt and the ignominy she would have brought to him because of her stupidity and incapability of handling issues. "Allen I am very happy." Harris's voice was sloshed as he hugs me in excitement. I knew he had already crossed his limit in drinking. I hugged him back and helped him to one of the bedrooms covering him in a blanket. "I love you, my son." He mumbled in half conscience and closed his eyes.

I wasn't in a mood to enjoy the party or hold conversations with guests. I requested Julie to take care of the party and went back to my bedroom gulping a couple of drinks on the way to ease my mind. Thankfully no one would mind if I quit the get together today for I am the charming groom and need to spend the night with my bride. They had absolutely no idea my reasons for settling to solitude are entirely different.

Not meeting my eyes Ari continues in a broken voice. "I have seen my father doing stuff by most cruel means Allen. He tried not to bring his underworld home but due to circumstances at times he had to deal with cases. He took measures that I was enveloped from his brutal activities but unfortunately I did see him in worst ways that I am not supposed to. I feared my father that he would kill me or my boyfriend if he comes to know about our love. I was buying time from Robert to gain some courage and convince my father to our marriage but in the mean time everything happened before you can say knife."

"Arianna, did your father ever abuse you, scold you or treat you wrongly?" I looked down at her with my hands folded to my chest leaning to the balcony door. She twisted her lips disdainful as though I was speaking curses. "He seldom gets angry on me and even the few times that he did, he would sit besides and convince me on why he was right but he would never lay a finger on me."

I point to her with my eyes. "See, your solution was right with you. If you could attempt to speak to your father, he would have understood your relationship but you made a mountain out of a mole in complicating the situation." She knits her eyebrows in irritation and finger snaps. "It is not as easy as you imagine." I looked towards the sky sending a silent prayer God to give me the strength to deal with the ridiculous girl.

"You should have been a lawyer instead of a doctor in arguing the illegal cases of my father or been an advertiser of his businesses with praising annotations in social media. He would have felt much happier." There appeared a scorn on her face which earned her a burst of chortles from me.

Julie was here for another few days and until she leaves I and Arianna have to continue with the charade of a loving couple. Irrefutable I had fallen in love with her at first sight but it no longer appeals me to retain her in my house after knowing her feelings. She may be a virgin but her heart belonged to someone else and I don't fancy on pre-owned articles be it a person or things.

I took a spare blanket and a pillow from the closet and walked to the sofa making my bed. "As long as you are here you can stay comfortable. Julie is here for a few days until she leaves we have to sleep in the same bedroom. I hope you do not mind."

"The bed is too large for the both of us, Allen. We can sleep in the same bed and....." I stop her holding up my finger. "That is not a problem. I do not have any interest in touching what is not mine even though it would be unintentional." She gets up from the bed slightly shaking but makes to walk to the sofa without a support. "I will sleep here, I am shorter than you. The comforter is too small for your height."

"You are my guest and I shouldn't be uncaring towards my visitors." I put a hand on her shoulder to help her back to the bed. "I know you will be least interested in learning but Harris has not got much time to live in this world. I cannot bring the dying man to an aching chaos worried about his run away daughter. After he retires from the world I will send you to your boyfriend."

Something convulses in Arianna's eyes and I understood Harris was right in his statement a few months back.

Love still exists between them but Arianna would never accept her feelings for her father.

Will Allen Rodriguez go for an adjustment and accept Arianna or he would just say goodbye to her because his wife has another man in her heart?
