Chapter XIV

Y/N instructs the people who managed not to panic at this moment, a luck she has as she is still not feeling well. People walks not making a loud noise, they're like a sea with a wave but it is calm. Y/N continued to guide them until they reached the evacuation area, enough to make a temporary shelter for the helpless families.

The rest of the Levi Squad are also evacuating people on the other directions while their Corporal is busy dealing with the Commander. Armin is the one who was placed by Levi as their team leader while he is away. It should be Y/N, but according to her state of mind, she won't be able to focus properly especially that Levi is not with her.

It is night time and everyone was disturbed by the sudden visitation of the Titans from outside the wall. Maybe that is why they are not in a beast mood, some of them are sleepy. Fear is evident though, who wouldn't? Titans inside the wall this late at night? That's fucked up even in day time. They wonder what could be their chance of living if no one has noticed the ugly humanoids breaking into the huge boundaries protecting them all. A big deadly surprise indeed.

"Mama? Where are you?" A silent cries and murmurs poked Y/N's attention. A thin child wearing a ragged and dirty clothes is being blended up with the pool of people alone. She is obviously lost, like her. Y/N felt a sudden urge to help her, which of course her mission anyway.

"Sweetie? Come here."

The child obediently led her feet towards her. She crouched at her level and gently stroke the child's soft long hair. Her eyes are wet caused by her cries, and face is covered with dirt. Looking at her appearance, she is not as healthy and wealthy like others, not even has a small amount of money to survive long without striving hard. A thought came up in Y/N's mind as she looks at the child. Remembering the past few memories showed to her, she was also so poor, thin and ragged.

"Where is your mother?" She asked. The child started to sniff again as her tears came into view. Y/N wiped the tears away from the child's face and gave her a soothing smile. "It's okay, we will find her alright?"

"I... I think I will never see her again." Said the child clutching her hands into Y/N's.

"Why?"

"She purposely left me yesterday to a place I don't even know. I just thought I can find her here in the crowd."

Y/N's heart ached as the child tells her why she is alone. She is too young to wander in the streets unknown to her, especially when a blisteringly danger is around. They were both left behind. They were in a same situation but in a different story. Y/N gave up from waiting until felt loved by his mother and abandoned her, while the child was abandoned by her mom and is the one who was given up with. It's like Y/N is looking at her own self as a child. The child is so vulnerable just like her in the past.

"Do you have a friend?" Asked Y/N. She opens her arms ready to meet the child's embrace which she gladly accepted. Y/N stood up straight still holding the child and walks with the other people.

"I still have none."

"What is your name?"

"I'm Clementine."

"That's a nice name. Now, I'm taking you to safety, do you trust me to do that for you?"

Clementine nodded letting herself to smile a little as she wipes the tears away from her face. She is hesitant at first by her, she just cannot trust other people easily after what happened between her and her mother. But she ended up giving Y/N her full trust anyway. As if she also felt the same way Y/N does from her, a connection that only them can perceive. Clementine can only depend on Y/N for now, but little did they know, Y/N will be needing her too.
