As some of the earliest Arthropods, Trilobites helped the "Cambrian Explosion" with their numerous unique species.
Throughout the Paleozoic era, over 17,000 species of Trilobite evolved. Over the span of the 300 million or so years, Trilobites changed a lot. An example of this is the Devonian Trilobites, evolving spikes to protect themselves from the new jawed predators.
The Trilobites reign ended during the Permian/Triassic mass extinction 252 million years ago, right before the rise of the Dinosaurs.
   Length: 1 to 72 millimeters
   Weight: 4.5 kilograms on average
Diet: Some used filter feeding to eat plankton and diatoms, some potentially hunted small worms, and some had an herbiverous diet of algae and vegetation
Lived: Worldwide during the Cambrian Period of the Paleozoic Era
Appearance: Most Trilobite bodies are segmented and have three parts, hence their name "three-lobed". They had tiny legs below their armored exoskeleton, and could roll up in a ball if frightened
