Dickinsonia was a species of basal animal that lived during the Late Edicarian period of the Precambrian Era. This rather underwhelming looking creature is now known as Earths earliest animal.
When first discovered in the 1940s, Dickinsonias true identity was debated because of the lack of fossilized organic matter. Later fossilized fat cells were discovered, and it was confirmed to be an animal.
