Though it looks like a dinosaur, Postosuchus is in fact a type of crocodilian. This reptile lived during the Late Triassic in North America. It's name means "Crocodile-from-Post". Discovered in 1922 by Sankar Chatterjee in the Crosby County, Texas. Arriving in the fossil record right after the Permian mass extinction, the Postosuchus took its place as an apex predator. Length: 13-15 ft Height: 3-4 ft Weight: 550-660 lbs Diet: Small amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and perhaps other crocodilians Lived: In North America during the Middle to Late Triassic The reason for Postosuchus' bipedal stance is likely the same as theropod dinosaurs; to make chasing prey easier. Looks like the crocodiles beat the big dinosaurs to the two-legged posture!
