I waited for nothing to come.
I sat on the bed blankly staring at the door. The room was silent while I was waiting for that one sound to bounce on the walls. I don't know how long my gaze fixated on the wooden object. Seconds? Minutes? An hour? I wasn't counting.
A knock. All I needed was a knock.
Kaya ko 'to.
I crossed my arms to my chest, letting her open the door completely. What was her problem anyway? If I knew Anika any better, it's that she wouldn't waste a second of her time forcing me to do something I don't want to do. She knew how stubborn I was, and I knew how much she hated tolerating that trait of mine. I rose an eyebrow at her, waiting for her to talk.
"Anong gusto mo?
"Busy magmukmok?" she countered.
My lips curved in amusement. "Nautusan ka ni Austin? At sumunod ka naman agad. Nako Anika, 'di pa kayo under ka na ah."
"The only under I will ever be is under-appreciated," she shook her head slightly and pulled me by my arm. "Tara na nga! Bilisan mo!"
Anika aggressively pulled me along with her, forcing me out of my room. I was frowning the whole time we were walking.
"Oh come on. Cheer up!" she tried to lift my spirits.
"I'm supposed to be the masungit one between us, not you. Stop being so sad on your birthday. 'Di bagay sayo."
She dragged me towards the table outside where everything was being set-up. My lips parted in shock when I saw an ginormous cake in the middle. All the food and drinks on the table were my favorites.
