I first touch Mason on the back of his knee, and run my finger up his leg and over his butt to start at his lower back. His skin is velvety and baby soft, it's taut over his muscles. He must take good care of himself. I dig my fingers into his back smoothing my hands down his butt. I trail my hands to his right leg and press into his muscles as I drag my hands to his foot. He has sexy feet. I focus on his arches. Getting used to touching his bare skin.
"I felt that through the bond," he said.
"That's a good sign, Mason," the doctor tells him. "Sit up for me."
I stop what I'm doing and let him roll over and sit up. He dangles his legs over the end of the bed.
"Chloe, put your hand on his spine below his injury." I touch him where I'm supposed to. "Mason, try and move your toes."
We all stare down at his feet in seriousness. At first nothing happens, and then the big toe on his right foot lifts. Mason releases a breath he'd been holding. "Chloe take your hand off. Now Mason try again." Again, we stare down, but there's no movement.
"That's okay, that's okay. I just wanted to try it. That will take more time. Mason, we'll need to change up your physical therapy to strengthen your legs, with Chloe's help. You should be able to walk with her touching you in a few weeks. Keep up with the twice daily massages, and you might even be able to walk on your own."
The doctor prints out several pages of exercises for him to do, and leaves. Mason stares at my face. There's a light in his eyes that wasn't there before.
