Y/N hated formal balls. Not only because she would have to spend the whole night with an annoying dress, but also because she didn't have a date.
When Professor Snape called in all the Slytherin's to inform them of the Yule Ball, he expected each and everyone one of them to be on their best behavior and bring excellence to Salazar's name. Every girl was excited for the ball, they couldn't wait to play dress up and be able to be a princess for the night. Except how could Y/N be a princess when she had no prince?
She did have her eye on someone, the Slytherin prince himself. But all the attention he got from girls, especially Pansy– Y/N gave up hope on him asking her.
She watched as days went by and many boy's were asking girls to be their dates. She sighed sadly as she got her Charms book and left with her friends.
"What's got you all sad?" Daphne asked her. "Have you guys gotten dates for the ball?" She asked Daphne Greengrass and Millicent Bulstrode. The three were walking into the Great Hall for dinner. "No, but I've heard someone was meaning to ask you." Millicent told Y/N. She raised her eyebrows, could she have meant Draco?
"Oh do you know who?" She asked as they sat down and began to serve themselves food. "Adrain, the one who's 2 years above us." "Pucey?" Millicent nodded and began to eat. She looked to her side and saw Adrian. He wasn't bad looking, he was actually very attractive and tall, but he wasn't Draco.
Y/N mentally rolled her eyes, Draco wasn't going to ask her, and that shouldn't stop her from going to the ball.
Even though, for the past 3 years Y/N and Draco would constantly flirt with each other. Many people even thought they were together. They would always look up at each other and give small smiles or smirks to one another. Y/N thought he liked her, but she must have been wrong.
There were 3 days left for the ball. Y/N's mother had already sent her a gorgeous dress and jewelry. Adrian had not asked her yet. Word got around that Draco had asked Pansy Parkinson to the ball. Which made Y/N annoyed. He asked her, but not Y/N, who in fact he had feelings for?
Y/N sat in the Great Hall with her friends. They were talking about a new essay Snape assigned. "Y/N don't turn around, but Adrain is coming your way."
Y/N raised an eyebrow and turned around, her friends mentally cursing at her for not listening to them.
"Hey Y/N." Adrain said standing in front of the table she was sat across from. "H-hi." She blushed slightly. "So...I was wondering if you'd like to go to the Yule Ball with me?" He brought his hand up revealing a rose.
By now, everyone at the Great Hall was looking at the two, even Draco– who was mad at himself. He heard Adrain had asked Y/N to the ball and he thought she said yes to him, which is why he asked Pansy. Draco was filled with regret and annoyance.
He watched as Y/N nodded her head with a huge smile. She grabbed the rose and hugged Adrain, making Draco roll his eyes. "Aw that was so cute." Pansy said next to him. He shifted in his seat and scoffed.
It was Saturday morning, Y/N woke up in a happy mood. She went into the bathroom to shower and quickly changed into causal clothing. Y/N and her three friends went down to the Great Hall, to get breakfast. They all talked about how excited they were for tonight. They were excited for the dancing, the food, everything. Y/N looked up from her cereal and saw Adrain looking at her, they both smiled at each other. She looked towards the end of the Slytherin table and saw Draco, looking at both of them in disgust. She raised her eyebrow at him and he responded by rolling his eyes. What's wrong with him? Why is he acting so cold all of a sudden? She thought.
She told her friends good bye as she left to go back to the dungeons. Draco quickly following her. She turned her head slightly, noticing his blonde hair. She stopped in her tracks and turned around facing him, "Why are you being so distant?" She asked him and he ignored her. "Oh wow, now you're gonna ignore me?" He didn't look at her, Y/N was getting annoyed. "Fine. Have a fun time with your little girlfriend." She told him smirking.
She turned around and walked away from him. Oh how she wished it was him and her going to the ball.
Y/N was in her dorm room with her friends getting ready. She had curled her hair, and put it up, having some of her hairs fall slightly down, framing her face. She looked gorgeous. She put on the dress, that shaped her figure so well. Y/N even thought she looked good herself. She put on her heels, and went down to the common room with her friends.
"We all look amazing!" Y/N told her friends. She went up to Daphne, fixing her hair, and smiling. The three girls walked down the corridors of Hogwarts. They reached the end of the stairs. This is where I strut and look like a princess, she thought. And so she did, she stood at the top of the stairs looking at everyone, trying to find Adrain. She slowly walked down the stairs, all eyes watching her every move. She smiled at the ground, biting her bottom lip. She reached the bottom of the stairs and looked around. Where the hell was Adrain?
She looked around the hall trying to find him, did he really not show up? Her eyes slowly started to water, No I am not going to cry over an idiot. She took a deep breath closing her eyes. She exhaled opening her eyes once again, meeting Draco's eyes. She half smiled at him before going into the gorgeous decorated Great Hall. Her mouth hung slightly open as she looked around the room. She made her way to her friends, "He didn't show up." Y/N said in a soft disappointed voice. The two girls looked at each other and frowned, "He did." Their eyes looked over Y/N's shoulder, she turned around seeing Adrain with his quidditch friends.
Y/N furrowed her eyebrows, "Should I go to him?" "He is your date." They told her. She sighed as she walked to him, "Hi Adrain!" She smiled at him. "Y/N! You're finally here! Do you know the team?" He asked as he swung his arm around her. "Uh no, not really."
The whole night consisted of Adrain talking about the quidditch team and his friends. She watched as couples got up to dance, but instead she was sitting down listening to idiots talk about a stupid game.
Draco's night wasn't perfect either. Pansy was practically attached to his side, constantly talking about who knows what. His eyes never left Y/N. He watched as she constantly sighed and rolled her eyes at her date. I should have asked her. I should have been the one to dance with her tonight.
Y/N regretted coming with Adrain, it would have served her better to go alone, with her friends. She looked to find Draco, who had his elbow on the table and chin in his hand, looking down. She felt angry at him, he should have asked her!
"Adrain, I'm feeling tired I'm going to head back." She told him, but he didn't answer, he was distracted with his friends. She scoffed, got up from her seat and left the Great Hall. She went into the bathroom, to cry. Not cause she was sad, but because she was angry and disappointed.
Draco saw Y/N leave, he shook Pansy's grip and followed her. He saw her go into the bathroom. He sighed sadly, he went into the common room grabbing a piece of parchment paper.
Y/N looked at herself in the mirror, her makeup was definitely ruined, but she didn't care. She cleaned off her running mascara and went into the dungeons. She walked up to her dorm, practically ripping off the dress. She went into the bathroom washing her face and changing into her pajamas. She exited the bathroom heading towards her bed, seeing a small swan made out of paper. The same small swan she knew too well. She opened it slowly trying not to rip it and read it out loud to herself:
