I kicked my shoes off, dropping my backpack and jacket by the door. To say that Jennifer chewed me out would be an understatement. Not only did I get in trouble for not getting any pictures of Hawks, I got in even more trouble for losing the camera and was told that the money for it would be coming out of my paycheck.

Nope, she didn't give two shits that I had almost fallen to my death. She said I could've at least asked him for a picture after he saved me.

I made it to my bedroom, after scrubbing whatever was left of my makeup off viciously. I ripped off my jeans and bra, tossing myself into bed.

What a shitty day. Recently that's all life seemed to be for me, complete shit. Will I ever be able to be who I want to be? Even though I had already taken my pain meds it still didn't help me feel any better.

I reached over to my bed side table, grabbing the glass bowl, lighter, and my favorite substance, weed. I crushed the green clumps with my fingers, packing a small amount into the bowl. Only a few hits in and there was a knock at my door.

I sighed exasperatedly, rolling out of bed. I didn't have friends, and I never ordered any packages. It wouldn't make sense for it to be my landlord, I always pay my rent on time.

I opened the door cautious of who it could be. My mouth fell agape as I was met with a familiar red winged fellow. I tried to muster up words, but all that would come out were broken sentences.

"How did you find me?" I asked, finally managing to get my words out.

He seemed nervous, but it quickly disappeared as soon as I noticed it. "I felt bad about losing your camera, so after you told me that, I sent a few of my feathers out to find it. I didn't end up finding it before we parted ways, so I slipped another feather into your backpack so I could sense where you lived."

I stared at him puzzled.

"That probably sounds creepy, and I'm sorry, but I did find your camera. I opened my door to let him in as he pulled my lost item out of his jacket.

"Thank you! Oh my god, you should have heard what my boss said to me when I told her I lost it. Hopefully I don't have to pay to replace it now."

"She really would've made you use your own money to get a new one?" he asked with a semi-shocked tone. I responded with an affirmative nod, suddenly feeling guilty. This man, while I didn't know or trust him that much to say the least, he had helped me in so many ways already and I had only known him for not even a day.

"Thank you so much again, for this, for everything. Really, I would be dead if it wasn't for you." I felt so much gratitude for him, I wasn't used to this feeling.

"It's my job to save people, it's what a hero does." I could sense something in his voice as he said those words. "what a hero does"

"Let me thank you, please." he titled his head, as if he didn't know what I was inquiring. "You have done so much for me. You took me to the hospital when I was injured, you stayed there with me to make sure I was okay when you didn't have to, you even found my camera to return it to me. You didn't have to do any of those things..." I began trailing off as he walked closer to me.

"I should be helping you kid, you're the one who's injured." He caught me by surprise. What exactly was he getting at?

"But you've already done so much for me. I can cook for you. I haven't been to the store this week, so I don't know exactly what I have, but..." I was talking to myself out loud again. I quickly returned my attention back to him. "Please let me do something for you."

"No ,no, now hold on. The doctor said you aren't supposed to do anything that requires a ton of brain activity. Cooking is gonna require quite a bit of concentration, I'll cook, you get some rest!"
