Zac was sitting in the music room. It was his after school activity for the year. He didn't really like it he just saw Chloe signing up last minute so he did the same thing.
"You're the only one here?" Naomi asked from behind the boy.
"Yeah, the music teacher told me to stay here."
"Me too. Apparently I was signed up for music." Naomi rolled her eyes before taking a seat.
"You two must be my students." said a man wearing sandals, jean shorts and a dashiki.
"Who are you?" Zac asked.
"I'm your new music teacher. I'm here to teach the last minute sign ups."
"There's only two of us. Why didn't they just squeeze us in with the others?"
"I have to prove that I can be a good teacher so they gave me only a small number of students."
"So we're like a test for you?" Naomi asked and he nodded. "Nice to know I'm being used."
"What's your name sir?" Zac asked.
"Oh, I'm Mr Thomas Hartford. Can either of you play instruments?"
"No." Naomi deadpanned.
"I've never played any instruments before." Zac admitted.
"Okay, can you at least sing?"
"Nope. I guess you have to teach me."
"I guess I do. Can you sing young lady?"
"Maybe." Naomi shrugged.
"I'll take that as a yes. Let's start with playing the guitar. It seems like the easiest to learn." Mr Hartford told the two before handing them each an acoustic guitar.
Zac held the guitar as he was instructed before he noticed that Naomi was holding it the other way.
"You're left handed." Zac said mindlessly.
"Really? I didn't notice." Naomi rolled her eyes.
"Are you being cold because I asked for a different partner in gym class?"
"No, I just don't like you."
"What? Why? You don't even know me."
"I don't need to know you."
"You can't just judge someone without knowing them."
"Whatever. Can we get back to the lesson please." Naomi groaned.
"Okay so just use your thumb to move down from each string I tell you to touch." Mr Hartford told the two.
The two did as they were told and Mr Hartford noticed something about Naomi. He wasn't going to to point it out just yet though.
After an hour of teaching them how to play it was time for them to leave.
"We'll pick up where we left off tomorrow. For now I suggest you try not to forget what we already learned."
The two teens nodded before grabbing their bags. As they were walking out the class Zac noticed Chloe coming out the gym. He looked at her curiously.
"Didn't she also sign up late for music classes?" He asked himself as he watched the girl walk to the janitors closet.
He shrugged and walked out the school where he saw Naomi standing at the bottom of the stairs.
"You need a ride?"
"Nope, I'm cool."
"Come on if you need a ride just say so. I'll be more than happy to give you a ride."
"Dude I told I don't need a ride."
"I'm just trying to be nice."
"Well don't. I don't like people okay? So just......get on with your life."
Zac nodded and walked over to his car. Jessica left with Aliyah so he could take his sweet time.
He drove to the mall where he agreed to meet with Samar and Phoebe for frozen yogurt.
"Let me get this straight. You signed up for music? I thought you said people who sigh up for that are wannabes who think they can make it in life." Phoebe asked with a raised brow.
"I know what I said, but then I saw Chloe Brooke sign up and my opinion changed." Zac shrugged.
"Again with Chloe Brooke? I thought we all agreed that you should get over her." Phoebe said.
"You all agreed, I on the other hand didn't agree and shouldn't my decision be the final one?"
"Not if three females are the ones who made the decision."
"She's right. My dad always changes his decision when my mom, grandma and aunt say the opposite." Samar nodded and so did Phoebe.
"I don't care what you guys said. I like Chloe and I'm getting her to like me back before we graduate." Zac declared.
"Well you can start by buying her some frozen yogurt." Samar said pointing at the girl who just entered the shop.
"Okay, I got this. Just walk up to her and ask if I can buy her a cup." Zac said to himself as he stood up.
He walked towards her very slowly still giving himself a silent pep talk. As soon as Chloe saw him she smiled.
"Hey Zac."
"Yo-you know my name?"
"Yeah, of course I know your name. We've gone to the same school since we were like 13? You're in my history class and study hall. Plus we switched partners in gym like three days ago."
"Right sorry I'm just nervous."
"Why would you be nervous?"
"I want to buy you some froyo but I'm not sure if you're the type of person who likes things being done for them."
"Zac if you want to buy me froyo I won't stop you. As long as you let me buy you some next time."
"Deal!" Zac said excitedly making Chloe chuckle.
He bought her some froyo before she walked out the store with a heart warming smile. Zac then went back to his two friends who were smiling at him.
"So I guess maybe we should change our decision?" Samar asked Phoebe who nodded as Zac kept smiling like a lunatic.
"She smells like strawberry. I don't know how but she does." Zac sighed in content.
"He looks like a love sick puppy right now." Phoebe whispered to Samar who nodded.
"Zac there's a party at the lake on Saturday. You down?" Samar asked the boy who wasn't even listening anymore. All he could focus on was the fact that Chloe said 'next time'.
"It's no use he's practically dead to the world." Phoebe said before getting a bottle of water from her backpack.
She opened it before pouring a bit in her hand and throwing it at his face. Zac immediately snapped out of it and looked at the girl like she had lost her mind.
"Saturday. Party. Lake. You in?" Phoebe asked ignoring his glare.
"Yes, I'm in." Zac sighed whipping the water from his face.
