Chapter Thirty-Seven . . . Not Your Fault
Cat's POV
"You don't understand Grif, I left her alone. I fucked this all up." I heard the familiar voice of Geoff sigh, but my eyes were to heavy to open and up see him.
"Geoff, it's not your fault. You couldn't have prevented something like this from happening. You would of only gotten in the way and then it would be you and her in that hospital bed." Griffon explained softly.
I tried to swallow to clear my dry throat, but it wasn't working.
God, did I need water.
I opened my eyes and was met with the bright white light coming from the ceiling. I turned my head to the side and let out a little groan.
"Shit, she's awake." Geoff said.
"I'll get the doctor."
I heard the soft padded feet of Griffon and then the door shut softly.
"Cat, can you hear me?"
I cracked my eyes open a crack before fully opening them up.
"Geoff?" I croaked and he smiled.
"Yeah, it's me how are you feeling?" He asked as he grabbed my hand comfortingly.
"Water?"
He was quick on his feet and moved to the table and poured water into a plastic cup.
"Here." He said as he brought it to my lips.
I drank the cold liquid greedily before it ran out.
"Thanks." I said. "Where am I?"
"Do you remember what happened?"
I went to shake my head and tell him no, but the thoughts of Thomas and his obsession ran through my head.
"Thomas-" I started but Geoff was quick to stop me.
"The police have him in custody. They saw everything, he's going to prison for a really long time."
I didn't say anything but instead stared at my white blanket that laid over me. I really didn't know what to say.
I looked up at Geoff who was red in the face from crying.
"It's not your fault."
Geoff looked surprised and looked as if he was going to say something, but was interrupted when the door opened revealing a doctor and Griffon.
Griffon stepped to the side, taking Geoff with her, as the doctor walked over to me.
He took out a flashlight and flashed it in my eyes.
"Can you tell me your name?"
"Catherine Daniels." I answered as I flinched at the light.
"Good. Do you know what town you're in?"
"Austin."
"Good." He put the flashlight back in his pocket and took my pulse. "Well, for someone who was beat pretty bad, you sure are in good shape."
"What's the damage?" I asked.
"Well, you have a couple of cuts on your chest from a knife, bits of glass went in pretty deep of your back, you have stitching in your shoulder from your stab wound, severe bruising especially around the throat, and finally a couple of broken ribs." He went through each of my problems like it was a check list.
I sighed and went deeper into my pillow. "How long do I have to be here for?" I asked with tears in my eyes.
I just wanted to go home and be with Gavin. I wanted this whole day to disappear.
