Chapter 19

Liam's POV

Getting to know Maddie is the most interesting thing. She's so unique and amazing. Most of the girls at our school are all the same, but Maddie is so different.

She loves artwork, she's an artist herself, and how it portrays something beautiful. She says she doesn't get to choose what she draws, which really confused me.

"What do you mean? Don't you have to come up with what to draw?" I ask.

"No, actually. I just kind of get a feeling and splash it down. For example," she says, shifting somewhat uncomfortably, "Last night, I got a really sad feeling and I drew this," she says pulling it out.

I take the piece of paper and look at it. Immediately, my eyes fill with tears and my heart starts to wrench.

"W-who is this for?" I ask.

"Liam," she says gently touching my arm, "I think it's for you."

I gulp and wipe my eyes. That's what I was afraid of. By letting her see the real me, she now thinks that I'm just some depressed little boy with horrible parents.

I'm not saying that's not what I am, I just don't want anyone to know that.

I give her back the paper, shaking my head.

"No, it can't be me, he looks sad," I say.

Maybe I should take up acting, I'm quite good at it since my whole life is a play.

"But Lia-"

"It's not me," I demand.

I'm startled by my tone of voice and, by the looks of it, so is she.

So I lower my voice and ask, "Do you wanna play a game?"

She nods, her features softening back into that beautiful face of hers, and I run to get the checker board.

"Alright you better be ready, because I'm gonna destroy you at this game," she says smiling.

"Oh yeah? Bring it on sunshine!" I say laying out the pieces and making the first move.

We spend the rest of our afternoon playing checkers, she won by the way, and watching movies.

She kind of cuddled up next to me during Annie, which made me feel really warm and protected.

I think I'm starting to have serious feelings for Maddie, and I can't tell if I'm ok with that or scared.
