Michael POV:

I reached for his hand.

It was limp. No change in his composure.

The breathing tube was still breathing for him at full capacity, there was no eye movement, no muscular spasms, no anything that would give us a sign that he should be off life support. It was all the contrary. The machines were keeping him alive.

I look up and see Calum holding his other hand, deep in thought. Ashton was checking his medicine in the IV and his oxygen.

"there's no change..." he said quietly. He looked down at Luke. He sighed and pulled up a chair and sat down.

I looked at Luke and just held his hand as I closed my eyes.

I don't pray, but I was asking the universe to do whatever it had and could do to save my brother.

It was so strange seeing him lying down and knowing he wouldn't wake up if I slapped him with the pillow like I did at home.

"Hey Lu... uh, it's Calum. We're here if you decide to wake up from your beauty sleep. We all know you don't need anymore of it." he chuckled and sighed.

Ashton and I give a weak laugh.

silence.

I sigh and break the silence "It's weird to be in the position where we have to talk to you so you can try to come back. We tell it to patients, but... it's weird experiencing it..." I look at him and just shake my head I look over to the heart machine and see no change in anything and look down.

I miss Luke.

2 weeks later

Claire's POV:

"Okay, now walk in a straight line with your hands up to the sides" Michael said as he wrote something down on my file.

"okay..."

I tried my best to walk down in a straight line. I was breathing hard but a smile was inching across my face as I finished walking the straight lap.

I left out a tired breath and looked at a smiling Michael.

"okay and now.."

"oh come on Michael! Pleasee please just pass me" i interrupted with a smile.

"Claire, I cannot do that. I would love to, but I also love my medical license and I paid too much to just lose it for favoritism." He smiled.

I rolled my eyes but nodded.

"okay,--"

He was interrupted by the door opening and Calum walking in with a sandwich and a mcdonalds happy meal.

"omg is that for me?..." i asked looking at Calum with wide eyes and a smile.

Michael and him laughed.
