Marina POV

When I woke up, the spot next to me was empty. I got up and went to the kitchen. I stopped right away when I saw a huge man pouring milk for everyone. Kili turned and saw me in the doorway and motioned to an empty spot beside him. I smiled and quietly slid into it. He leaned over and whispered in my ear. "Sleep well?" I blushed and hit him in the arm. "What? Just saying, Thorin usually isn't so cuddly. But, then again, you wouldn't let go of his neck." I blushed deeper and hit him again. "Kili stop!" He burst out laughing and Thorin gave us a quizzical look. I laughed again and Thorin shook his head and turned back to his conversation with Beorn.

Born gave us some ponies to go to Mirkwood on. I was honestly terrified of Mirkwood. Once, long ago, I was captured there and held prisoner for 5 months until I could escape. My hand ran over the scar that decorated my belly. In my escape I had been shot with an arrow by one of the guards. I ended up riding with Thorin. I sat in front of him in the saddle. We started towards Mirkwood. "We will not stop until we get there." Thorin stated. We rode for many hours and night was falling. I was tired so I leaned the back of my head against Thorins shoulder and he chuckled. "Sleep while you can." He said gently. I didn't need to be told twice.

Thorin POV

I felt Marina go limp and start breathing evenly. I smiled and kissed the top of her head. How in Durins name did this happen to me? I went on this journey to reclaim my homeland, and on the way I have fallen for a halfbreed. I still feel really bed for threatening her so harshly. I overreacted. We kept riding through the night and she slowly started to stir at dawn. "Hey sleepy." I said gently. She moaned and nosed into my neck. I chuckled and gently shook her. "Wake up. We're almost there." She sat bolt upright. "We are?" "Yes." We stopped at the elven gate and got off our ponies so that they could return to Beorn. I looked at the elven gate and shook my head. Gandalf went inside and came out a short while later yelling at us not to release his horse because he needed it. He was leaving. "Whatever may come, stay on the path because if you leave it, you'll never find it again." I raised an eyebrow. Thanks for the encouragement. I looked at Marina, who had tears in her eyes. I quickly strode over to her and enveloped her in my arms. "Hey... Hey... What's wrong?" She looked up at me. "I have been here before. They arrested me and held me prisoner for 5 months before I could escape." She pulled up the edge of her shirt and I saw an old scar beside her new ones from the Warg. "A guard shot me when I was escaping." I shook my head and put my hand under her chin and made her look at me. "I will do anything in my power to protect you Marina." She smiled sadly and stood up on her tiptoes to kiss me. "Come on let's go." She said when she pulled away.

We have been walking in this accursed forest for hours. We lost the path, Bilbo disappeared, and we aren't alone. An argument broke out amongst some of the company. "Quiet!!! We are not alone." I boomed. Everyone fell silent and I suddenly heard Marina shriek. I turned around to see dozens of huge spiders coming at us. I saw Marina fall to the ground, and get picked up by a spider. I felt a pain in the back of my neck and I fell to the ground.

Darkness.
