I was on my way to Bag End. I wasn't sure what would happen when I got there. Would they let me come? I fingered the necklace Gandalf had given me. It was magic, you see, and when I was wearing it, I didn't have pointed ears. But when I wasn't wearing it, my poinyed ears showed. I hated my ears. They were the only physical sign of the fact that I was a half-breed. My mother had been an Elf, and my father had been a Dwarf. It was a classic forbidden love story. Except I was the spawn of the doomed relationship. My father ended up dying in battle, and my mother died having me. I grew up in Dale, where I could easily hide and not be noticed. I wasn't noticed for a good many months, until that terrible day. I was walking in the marketplace, when a hot breeze suddenly blew in. I was curious as to what caused it and I soon got the answer to my question. A fireball came flying thru the sky and hit a watchtower. That was when chaos broke loose. People ran screaming, and me, being the height of a dwarf, got pushed around and knocked down. I hit my head on a rock and everything got hazy, then black. When I woke up it was night, and the city all around me was burning. I looked to Erebor, but nothing moved. The braziers weren't lit. That was when I knew what happened. "It was a dragon." I said. I said it outloud because, well, there was no one alive to hear me.
I wandered around the destroyed city for what seemed like hours. I gathered together what provisions I could find, and set out for Rohan. I lived there for a good many years (60 or so) until Gandalf found me a convinced me to join on this quest. That was what brought me to the Borders of the Shire. I looked at the small town, it was really quite quaint. Now to found the halfling Bilbo Baggins.
