Thorin POV

I stood tall, holding Marina to my side. I glared at Alfred, who backed away. "We are the dwarves of Erebor, and we have come to reclaim our homeland." Gasps ran through the crowd and I smirked. The master looked at me. "Within the walls of Erebor there is enough gold to rebuild Esgaroth ten times over!" Cheers ran through the crowd. "Death! That is what you will bring us. Dragon-fire and death." Bard said as he pushed through the crowds. I turned to the master. "I speak to the master of the lake. Will you give us your allegiance? What say you?" The master smiled. "I say unto you, welcome!" I smiled to myself and let go of Marina to stand upon the steps of the great house to look upon the cheering lakemen. Bard looked at me angrily. "You have no right to enter that mountain." I looked at him. "I have the only right."

It was night now, Marina had a horrible bruise on her cheek thanks to that snake Alfred. She winced as I put a cold cloth on her cheek. The master had let us into his house. The rest of the company was off somewhere drinking and celebrating while Marina and I sat in my chambers in front of the fireplace. "I'm sorry he hit you." I whispered. Marina chuckled humorlessly. "Thats not what hurts." She said with a wince. My heart clenched when I saw images of what the elves did to her ran through my head. "Are you bleeding?" I asked slowly. She nodded. "Its not bad now, but it was worse before." I put my arm around her and pulled her into my lap and her head fell on my shoulder. Quiet sobs racked her body as I rocked her back and forth in front of the fireplace. "Every times I close my eyes I see them." She sobbed. My heart broke a little at every tear that ran down her cheek.

"I'm sorry I couldn't stop them. I truly am." I whispered as I stroked her hair. She looked up at me. "There was nothing you could have done Thorin, please don't blame yourself! Please." I nodded slowly and kissed her gently on the forehead. "We should get some rest." She nodded and we both stood up. "Marina when we leave in the morning I need you to stay here." Her eyes widened and she stared at me. "What? Why?!" I sighed and pulled her into a hug.

"Because you are hurt. I can't lose you." I said softly as I rubbed her back. She sniffed. "Do you really want me to stay?" I nodded. She slung her arms around my neck. "Then I'll stay. For you." I smiled and held her tighter. "Thank you. Now, let's get you to bed shall we?" She nodded and I picked her up and carried her bridal style to the bed. She laughed as I not-so-gently plopped her on the bed and climbed in after her. "Goodnight my love. Sleep well." I whispered as I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her close. She hummed and fell asleep. I fell asleep soon after her.

It was morning now, we were preparing to get into some boats the master had given us. I noticed Kili trying to get into our boat. "Not you. You are injured and will slow us down." Kili stared at me with big eyes. "Im coming with you." "No. Stay here, join us when your healed." Kili sat down in disappointment and defeat and I felt bad. Ori got out of the boat. "My duty lies with the wounded." Fili started to get out of the boat. "Fili don't be a fool. You belong with the company." Fili looked at me. "I belong with my brother." I sighed and turned to Marina and hugged her. "Be careful." I whispered. She chuckled. "Dont die." I pulled back and kissed her slowly. I smiled down at her. "I love you. In case I don't come back... I want you to have this." I pulled my ring off my finger and gave it to her. Tears spilled down her cheeks and she threw her arms around my neck. "You will come back. I love you too. Now be off!" With one last kiss I got into the boat and we pushed off. The lakemen were cheering and waving, but all I could think of was those three people sitting on the dock, watching me leave.
