I stared at the dwarf that I had my dagger against the throat of. "I'm so sorry! I had no idea!" He smiled. "Eh its alright." I smiled back. Thorin cleared his throat, drawing my gaze back toward him.
"Alright, you may join. But one slip up and your gone. Understood?" I swallowed and nodded. I unconsciously felt for my necklace to make sure it was there. It was. Thorin gave Bilbo the contract, which I immediately signed, but Bilbo? The poor lad fainted. Later that night all the dwarves gathered by the fireplace, humming. Then Thorin began to sing.
Far over, the misty mountains cold.
To dungeons deep, and caverns old.
We must away, ere break of day, to find our long forgotten gold.
The pines were roaring, on the height.
The winds were moaning, in the night.
The fire was red, it flaming spread, the trees like torches, blazed with light.
I stared at the Dwarf King. He had an amazing voice. He turned and briefly met my gaze before sitting in an armchair. I turned and went out into the night. I sat there for a while. "My dear, don't worry. He will come round." I turned to look at Gandalf. "And when he finds out I'm a half-breed?" Gandalf sighed. "I don't know how he will react." "Thats what I'm afraid of." I said as I went back inside. I sat in an armchair in another room and soon fell asleep. I was woken by Fili, who was shaking me gently. "Marina! Thorin is getting ready to leave." I sat up "Thanks." He flashed me a smile and left to get his things. I quickly picked up my weapons and walked towards the front door. I noticed that Bilbo was still sleeping so I asked a dwarf with tattoos on his head, apparently his name was Dwalin, about Bilbo. "Lass we're leaving him behind. He didn't want to come, so we won't force him." I glanced over at Thorin. "Is that what he said?" Dwalin nodded. "Aye."
We were soon on the road. I rode on my pony, Shãpspar between the two princes, who were a very talkative bunch. Kili told me all about his mother, and all the pranks he pulled on his brother. Then he looked at me quizzically. "You are a dwarf right?" I gulped, nervous, and nodded. "then.... Why don't you have a beard?" I looked at him. "Well.... My mother didn't have a beard, and neither did my grandmother, so I guess its genetic." Kili nodded. "It must be." We continued to ride in silence for a while, until a small voice cried out. "Wait!! Wait!!.... I signed it!" Bilbo. Balin looked at the contract. "Well everything appears to be in order, welcome, master Baggins, to the Company of Thorin Oakenshield!" Thorin looked unamused. "Get him a pony." He ordered gruffly. Bilbo started to protest, but Fili and Kili grabbed him by the collar and lifted him onto a pony.
We stopped for the night on the edge of a cliff. Fili and Kili were given the night watch. I sat beside Kili by the fire, we were best friends already. I noticed Bilbo get up and walk over to his pony. He petted her and gave her an apple. Then a screech filled the air. Kili tensed up beside me, and I instantly had my hands on my swords. Bilbo turned to us. "What was that?!" Kili looked around. "Orcs."
