Thorin POV

I watched as the man looked at me quizzically. The man glanced at Marina and stared. She shivered and clutched onto me tightly. The man shook his head. "You are of a race not known to man. Pray, what are you?" Marina whimpered and tried to get away from him. I was angry. He was scaring her. I glared up at him. "She is a half breed, half dwarf and half elf. And if you don't mind, your scaring her." The man raised an eyebrow and turned to Balin, who had started to bargain with him. I wasn't listening, I had felt Marina sag against me and I gently led her away from the company and gently lowered her to the ground. I sat down and her head lay in my lap. She looked up at me. "It hurts." She whimpered. "Make it stop Thorin pleeeeease." It broke my heart to see her in so much pain. I leaned down and rested my forehead against hers. "I am so sorry. I couldn't stop them. I'm so so sorry Marina." She whimpered again. "There was nothing you could've done. Its not your fault. Please believe that!" She wrapped her arms around my waist. "I was a virgin." She whispered sadly. I looked down at her, shocked. She nodded and snuggled her nose into my neck. "Please just hold me." She whispered and I gladly complied. I noticed that Kili was limping his way over to us. "Uncle... The lakeman is going to smuggle us into Laketown." I nodder and slowly nudged Marina. She looked up at me and I helped her stand up. I wrapped an arm around her waist for support and we made our way to the barge, where the company was waiting with the lakeman.

We soon made it to laketown. The man, whose name I learned to be Bard, had us get into our barrels and hide. He poured horrid smelling fish over all the company, and I could've sworn I heard someone vomit.

Not that I would blame them, if I was bathing in fish, I would certainly vomit. Oh wait... I AM bathing in fish. I felt Marina gag beside me and her arms tightened around me. I held her hand gently to let her know I was there.

We were in those barrels for a while, and we narrowly escaped being found by a man named Alfred, who was not a pleasant fellow. Bard soon let us out of the barrels and I stood up and pulled Marina up with me. She was coughing and I rubbed her back. Bard told us that the only way to get into his house, which by the way was being watched, was through his sewer system and toilet, which by the way, was the aweful lake. Balin went first, then Bilbo and everyone else. Soon Marina and I were left. I looked down at her and motioned for her to go into the water. Her eyes widened and she shook her head and back away. "I.. I can't swim Thorin." I signed and took her hand. "This is the only way. Hold onto me. Do you trust me?" She nodded and I took hold of her and jumped into the water. I heard her gasp and her arms tightened around my shoulders. I couldn't help but smile as I swam. We came up and I got out of the water. As I stood up, I realized that I was heavier than usual. I chuckled when I realized that Marina was still attached to me. I looked down at her and her eyes were squeezed shut. "Marina... We're out of the water now." One eye slowly opened, then the other. "Never again Thorin. Never again." I chuckled and led her up the stairs to Bards house.
