Y/n's POV~

Our heartbeats pounded in our ears, our bodies exhausted. How many hours had we been out here for? We were crouched behind bushes, concealed behind tree trunks. Each of us trying to be as quiet as possible. This was a stealth mission of utmost importance.

"What's your distance from the target?"

"Five metres. I can go at any time," Naruto said into the headpiece.

"I'm ready too," Sasuke answered.

"Me too..." Sakura chimed.

I let out a silent yawn, "can someone just catch the damned cat already?"

Kakashi sighed. "Okay... do it!"

We all jumped out, Naruto managed to catch Tora. I watched him, cringing at his misfortune as Sasuke conversed with Kakashi. The cat was rather merciless, scratching Naruto all over. I shook my head and gently took the raging feline from Naruto's grasp. He at first struggled in my arms but slowly calmed down as I stroked his back, smiling softly at him. Eventually, he began to purr in my arms. Naruto looked at me in shock, pouting.

"That's not fair!! Why does he love you but hate me?!" Naruto exclaimed.

Grinning at Naruto, I knelt down, a firm but gentle hold still on Tora in case he tries to run off again.

"It's all in the way you were holding him, Naruto. You need to be gentle, and let him get used to you."  I took Naruto's hand in mine and brought it up to Tora's nose. He smelt Naruto hesitantly before slowly rubbing his head against his hand.

I grinned, "Naruto, I think you can hold him now. And remember, be gentle!"

Cautiously, he took Tora into his arms and smiled excitedly as the feisty kitty relaxed into his arms.

"Alright!!! Thanks Y/n-chan!" Naruto grinned at me. I flashed him a smile back and we began walking to report back to the Hokage.

3rd Persons POV

Team 7 stood in front of the Hokage, Naruto pouting angrily at him, making Y/n smile, amused.

"NOOOOOOOOO! No! No, no thank you! I wanna do a more exciting mission!! Give us something else!"

Y/n silently agreed, buzzing with excitement (with a side of minor fear) for the dangerous mission ahead of them.

'He's got a point' Sasuke thought. Y/n, as they can still hear from the point of view of a normal Naruto viewer, heard it and nodded, 'preach Duckass, preach'

Kakashi resisted the urge to sigh exasperatedly. What did he do to deserve this?

Iruka got annoyed. "Watch it, you're still a bottom rookie Naruto! You're still at the start. Everyone moves up the ranks by gaining experience from simple missions!"

"B-but it's been nothing but blah blah missions so far!!" Naruto yelled back. Kakashi slapped the back of Naruto's head, shutting him up.

"Knock it off."

"Listen to me..." the Hokage began, most of them tuned out after these 3 words. Instead, opting to listen to Naruto ramble on about his extensive knowledge of ramen and what he was going to eat later on.

"HEY, LISTEN TO ME," the Hokage demanded. The five of them turned around sheepishly,

"I-I'm sorry..." Kakashi mumbled out.

"You always lecture me, Jiji. But I'm not the little prankster you think I am," Naruto huffed before turning around, puffing out his cheeks like an adorable, angry chipmunk.

Y/n grinned, shaking their head.

"Okay, fine. If you insist... I'll have you do a C rank mission. You'll be bodyguards for someone," the Hokage said, giving in to Naruto's demands.

On the inside, Y/n cheered and thought a billion thoughts, all about if they should try and save Haku and Zabuza, or not, on who to ask to take care of B/n (he was not coming on this crazy ass mission, definitely not), thinking about what to eat for dinner, why their elbow was suddenly itchy- and many more.

Too enveloped in their thoughts, they didn't notice their client until he spoke.

"What is this? It's just a bunch of squirts!"

Y/n faced the bridge-builder and crinkled their nose at the smell of sake.

"Particularly you, the smallest one with the idiot face, are you even a ninja?" He slurred.

"Yeah, he's a ninja. What about you, the old man with a drinking problem, are you even a bridge-builder?" Y/n retorted, making Kakashi nudge their shoulder, shooting them a half-hearted warning look. Silently telling them to back off because he was already going to get scolded because of Naruto, he didn't need them contributing to his lecture.

Tazuna glared at Y/n as Kakashi held onto the back of Naruto's jacket, preventing him from throwing hands with the old man.

"I am Tazuna, a veteran bridge builder. You'll be risking life and limb in guarding me to the max until I return to my land and complete my bridge."

Iruka's POV

Team 7 and the bridge-builder had left the office. I was about to leave myself when I noticed Y/n lingering at the door, deep in thought.

"Hey, are you alright?" I asked softly. I didn't want to startle them. They snapped out of their thoughts and looked at me, before looking around the room. A small, embarrassed blush crept up onto their cheeks.

"Sorry Iruka-sensei, I was distracted,"

Giving them a warm smile I held out my hand, which they stared at in confusion.

"You ran out of my class that day, and we couldn't talk much during the team reveals, so we didn't get to properly get to know each other, but I did notice that you and Naruto looked really close. Thank you for being a good friend to him. But that's beside the point. I want to properly introduce myself. I'm Umino Iruka, but you can call me Iruka-sensei."

A slow grin spread across their face as they shook my hand,

"L/n Y/n. I should be thanking you for being Naruto's first friend," they exclaimed, beaming at me.

"And... um... well... I know we don't know each other very well yet, but I trust you... I trust you a lot. So, would it be alright if you look after my brother for a few days? Just while we're on our mission to the Land of Waves. He's not old enough to stay by himself..."

My eyes widened and my heart swelled. They trust me?

"Of course I can. If I can handle Naruto, then I'm certain that looking after your brother will be easy-peasy."

A look of relief washed over their face and they wrapped their arms around me, very evidently thankful.

"Thank you so, so, so, so much Iruka-sensei!"

A chuckle escaped my lips as I loosely reciprocated the hug. I don't know why, but they remind me of Naruto. Maybe it's the smile? Maybe it's the same kind of childish innocence they both haven't lost. Maybe it's the admiration in both their eyes.

(Maybe it's Maybelline. Did I do that whole thing just to make a Maybelline joke? Maybe I did...)

Iruka looked down with a small, fond smile, "You're welcome, Y/n."
