Y/n's POV
I gulped, watching the chains slash Kakashi, tearing 'him' to pieces. A vine popped into my head,
"Ms Keisha?! Oh my fxxking god... she fxxking dead," I muttered under my breath.
I know Kakashi used substitution, but it was still... too realistic for me to be completely immune. So I tried to cope the only way I know how. With humour. Tearing my eyes from the spot Kakashi was in, I turned my head to Sasuke. Our eyes made contact and he nodded, understanding what I was trying to get at.
(honestly, I was saying 'we gon die' but he interpreted it as 'you attack them, I'll defend Tazuna', which is close enough I guess)
The adrenaline rush was different from anything I'd ever experienced before. Sasuke stopped their chain weapon as I whirled around, heading for Naruto. He was still frozen. Running past him, I slapped him upside his head. Looking at me, Naruto's fearful look had calmed a little. I gave a quick grin, letting go as I ran to Tazuna's side before Sasuke had a chance. I can feel my heartbeat pulsing, hear it bellow inside my eardrums. He's launching at me with the intent to kill me. Murderous intent. Although they're only small time enemies compared to what's to come... this feeling...It's... worse than I imagined it would be. I can feel the hand holding my kunai start to tremble but I refuse to back down. After all, it's gonna be fine. Right? Kakashi's gonna come out any second now. But.. this guy's getting so close. Is he actually gonna get me? I swallowed thickly. The trembling's getting worse, but I'm going to keep my focus. I'm not gonna get hurt. I'll stand my ground, even if this is more daunting than I thought it was going to be. I won't-
"Move!"
Sasuke choked out, pushing me out the way before I had any time to react. He stepped in front of me, tensing into a defensive position. He was prepared to defend, or to even take the blow himself.
Then Kakashi decided to finally make his appearance. He caught the brothers. My heartbeat still pounded fast. For a moment, we were all still. I could only catch my breath. Not that I was partuclarly exhausted, but because for the first time, I felt like I could really be killed in an instant. My eyes stayed trained on Kakashi, who gave me a small but reassuring eye smile.
"Naruto, sorry I didn't help you right away. I got you hurt. I didn't think you'd be incapable of moving."
My eyes widened, remembering him. In my panic, I'd forgot. Looking at him, my heart aching for what he'd be feeling right now.
"Anyhow, good job Sasuke. You too, Sakura," Kakashi eyed me, "you as well Y/n." He held up one of the guys. "You banged him up quite a bit when you attacked that puddle." The nin had a black eye, and blood was dripping from a ninja star wound.
Hearing Naruto move, my breath hitched and I quickly stood up, almost tripping over myself as I went to his side.
"Hey... are you hurt? Scaredy cat," Sasuke called out, teasing Naruto. Who got even more frustrated then before.
"NARUTO! These guys have poison on their claws. You need to take out the poison quickly. You have to open the wound and drain the poisoned blood. Don't move around so much. Or else the poison will spread." Kakashi lectured.
I held Naru's wounded hand gently. "Dear Jashin," I mumbled, "are you okay?"
He didn't look at me.
"By the way Mr Tazuna... I have something I have to talk to you about," Kakashi said coldly. He tied up the Demon Brothers and backed away, introducing them to the rest of us. "Chunin from the Hidden Mist. These guys are known to continue to fight no matter the sacrifice."
One of them spoke up, scowling at the Copy Ninja. "How did you detect our movements? And how did the kid know to attack an innocent puddle?"
My worried gaze left Naruto's form and instead hardened into a glare, looking the brother that spoke, "There wouldn't be any puddles on a clear day like today, where it hasn't rained in days. I even said it, don't you remember? It wasn't exactly a genius disguise."
Kakashi nodded in agreement. "If I felt like it, I could've killed them instantly. But, I had to know who exactly they were targeting. In other words, I had to know if it was you, or one of us shinobi that was being targeted." His cold stare darkened, "we hadn't heard anything about you being targeted by ninjas. This mission was just supposed to be protection from gangs, thieves and the like. But this however, makes it a B-rank mission or higher... It appears there's some reason you have for doing so, but being lied to in the request won't do. This is beyond the scope of our mission."
Sakura spoke up, saying how we should go back to the village to heal Naruto.
Gritting his teeth, Naruto took out a kunai, and stabbed his wound.
A small sad smile came across my face as I heard his thoughts once again. My hand reached out, gripping my shirt just above my heart.
'Why am I so different?!' his unspoken words echoed through my head, 'Why is it always me?! Damn it... I should be getting stronger. I've been steadily carrying out my own special ninjustsu training every day... I will never get into another situation from which I need to be rescued. I will never be afraid, or be a coward. I won't lose to Sasuke...
"I'm going to swear by the pain on my left hand. I will protect you old man, with this kunai knife! The mission continues!" He said, brimming with determination. I grinned widely. That's my Naruto.
"Naruto... It's all well and good to rid yourself of the poisoned blood... but any more than that and you'll bleed to death." Kakashi interjected. Naruto, did not handle this information very well.
While he was flailing around, I suppressed a chuckle and walked up to him. Grabbing him by the shoulders. He looked at me and his eyes began to soften, calming down a little.
"You're going to be fine, Naru. I told you, you're going to become the greatest Hokage ever! You're not going to die anytime soon, okay?"
He blinked once, twice and then smiled sweetly, glomping me. "Thank you N/n-chan," he mumbled, making me laugh quietly.
"Alright, alright now get off me, Kakashi sensei still need to check your wound."
Nodding, he let go and let Kakashi examine his hand. When he didn't say anything, Naruto began to get fidgety again.
"Am I okay? You look awfully serious..." Naruto said stiffly, still pale from his panic.
"Well, you should be okay," Kakashi answered, making him sigh in relief.
'Is this healing power... power from the nine-tailed beast?' I heard Kakashi think. I had to resist the urge to say yes. Instead, I held Naruto's bandaged hand softly.
"Does it hurt?" I whispered to him. He chuckled nervously, trying to say no, but eventually gave in.
"y-yeah a little bit..." He muttered, embarrassed.
I nodded absent-mindedly. "You know, B/n gets hurt all the time. I wrap his bandages, and bandaids. He pretends to be strong, but it hurts a lot sometimes. So I kiss it to make it feel better. He tells me it works every time."
"Does it really work?!" He asks, intrigued. Snapping out of it, I tilted my head.
"I think so. That's what B/n tells me." I answered, smiling at him.
"Then... do you think you could kiss it better?" He asked innocently.
I stopped in my tracks and a small blush spread across my face. I wasn't expecting that. Looking into his eyes, I could tell he really just wanted to make his hand stop hurting. He was so innocent and naive to things like flirting, so being asked so purely and sweetly- well I just couldn't say no to him.
Gently, I pressed my lips against his bandaged hand, careful not to hurt him any more. Placing his hand down, a confused look crossed my face when he started giggling,
"Hey, hey, N/n-chan... you must be magic!! My hand doesn't hurt anymore!! In fact, I feel better than ever!" Naruto said with a cute grin, which made my face flush an even darker shade of red. He was too cute for my heart to handle.
