MacKenzie Sinclair  (Kenzie)
“Oh great, it’s eight o’clock!” I say loudly when I open my eyes thirty minutes late. I throw off my blanket and run to the bathroom, quickly take off my t-shirt I wore to bed and start adjusting the water in the shower.

Since I woke up late I only have less than ten mintues to shower. I hop out and grab the nearest towel and dry off quickly, run to the bathroom counter and start applying lotion, then brush my teeth like I do every morning, only this time very quickly since I had no time to spare. I run to my closet and grab my cream color lace dress that goes just above my knees still showing off my sun kissed legs with a brown belt that fits snug just under my bra giving the dress a more flowy look.

I let my blonde hair dry naturally while I apply light pink blush and mascara  only this morning, knowing I have no time for my usual routine. Which isn’t much but at least a little more effort than this but I have no time to waste. I grab my white lace wedges and my purse and head out the door. Maybe I can stop for a quick cup of coffee on the way. I step outside and breathe in the morning air, it’s mid June so summer weather is on full.

Only having thirty minutes to get to work I jump out of my car, a teal blue Volkswagen Bug, and I hurry into the cafe. As I’m walking in I look over my shoulder and shudder getting another one of those ‘someone is watching me’ vibes. I walk in quickly to the cafe where I find myself most mornings I’m in a hurry before work or just want to hang out with my girls. Ugh, I need to get out more and quit letting my anxiety get to me. Note to self: GET OUT MORE! STRESS LESS

Standing in line I already know what I want since I always get the same thing. And before you judge and get to know me I am NOT one of those girls that orders a Pumpkin Spice Freakin’ Latte, ok. I order the strongest cup of joe they have! Yes, black coffee, no creamer, no sugar just me and the nice hot java straight up. It’s finally my turn and there’s a new kid so instead of them smiling saying ‘The usual, Kenz?’ I have to tell him what I want.

“Hi, welcome to The Lighthouse Cafe! What may I get for you?” he says with a shaky voice and a crooked smile.

“Hi, I’d like a medium black coffee please!” I say with a genuine smile to let him know he’s doing good for being new.

“Uhh, um, nothing in it? Just black coffee?” he asks with a confused look on his face.

“Yes, please! I don’t drink girly coffee.” I say with a laugh. “May I please have a Pumpkin Spice Latte with extra foam and no fat because I’m already fat enough!” I say in my best Valley Girl voice. We both just laugh then are rudely interrupted by someone clearing their throat.

“Excuse me, some people have more important things to do in life other than flirt with the baristas at the cafe!” says the most beautiful man I’ve ever seen in my life. I don't know if it was the stubble from his five o clock shadow, piercing hazel eyes or the way his dirty blonde hair hung above his left eye...maybe all of it.

He stands there looking bored and like we’re wasting his time.

“Well excuse me, Jerkface! Some people have better things to do in life than going around being an ass to complete strangers when they are only making friendly conversation with the new guy on the other side of the counter!” I say with a sweet smile on my face like he didn’t completely phase me at all. Which he did in a way because who is he to tell me that I’m flirting when I’m not..wait, what, why do I care what he thinks?

He looks at me for a split second with a ghost of a smile on his perfect lips...wait, what, shut up!

“Just hurry” he says with the same bored tone and look on his face.
