Trip Alexander
I wake up to my phone ringing and grab it quickly."Hello." I say with a groggy morning voice.
"Good morning, Trip." The kind voice I've known for years tells me. My parents, Stephen and Vivian Alexander, were hippies before they had me so I guess Trip was a good name even 25 years ago. Thankfully they grew out of that phase shortly after I was born.
"This is Mrs. Stanfield honey, your dad needs to see you as soon as you can get here please." she says in her normal cheerful tone. I hear yelling in the background.
"Do you know what it's about?" I ask cautiously only because it will determine my mood when I get there.
"Um, well, he seems to be saying the name Violet a lot and cursing." she says quietly and gasps when we both hear a loud crash on her end of the phone.
"Ok thank you, Janet. Please tell him to give me about thirty minutes and I'll be there." I quickly say and hang up before she can answer me.
I set my phone down on my night stand and sit up in bed with my feet on the floor. I run my hands through my hair and sigh loudly when I hear my alarm go off. Ugh, they couldn't have waited a little longer.
I walk to the bathroom and take off my boxers after I've adjusted the water for my shower. I quickly wash myself from head to toe and turn off the water. I step out of the shower and grab a towel quickly drying myself off then walk into my room.
I grab some boxers out of my drawer and some socks, putting them both on quick. I put on some dark blue jeans, and white tank top, my favorite light blue button up which I decided not to button and just step in my work boots.
I have about twenty minutes to get to my dad's office and I'm already pissed at the thought of it being about her. I scowl at the memory of my ex as I jump in my truck. I have a dark grey 1987 Chevrolet K-10 Silverado pickup, I had a lift kit and 35 inch Nitto Dune Grappler Tires put on this bad boy.
I've got some time to spare so I decide to go to the cafe before I have to face him. I need coffee if I'm going to deal with this. It's already got me in a bad mood by the time I walk into the cafe to get in line.
Although my mind is on what I may be walking into when I see my dad I am overwhelmed by this smell of jasmine and lilacs then I hear the snobby girl in front of me say "Can I please have a Pumpkin Spice Latte with no fat because I'm already fat enough?" Then she laughs with the barista at the counter.
I clear my throat impatiently to get their attention.
"Excuse me, some people have more important things to do in life other than flirt with the baristas at the cafe." I say with a bored tone and look on my face.
Next thing I know this beautiful blonde with bright blue eyes looks at me with a sweet smile and says "Well excuse me, ass! Some people have more important things to do in life other than being an ass to complete strangers when they are only making friendly conversation with the new guy behind the counter!"
I do my best to hide the smile that threatens my lips and try to keep the same tone as before.
"Just hurry." I snap quickly.
With that she turns around and hands the guy her money and grabs her coffee thanking the guy at the counter then turns to leave but not before looking at me and giving me a smile that I swear just took my breath away and says. "You too." pats me on the shoulder sending a pleasant chill through my arm then walks out of my life.
What just happened? Who was the girl and why didn't I chase after her?
I wouldn't mind getting to know her better in more ways than one. I can't think about that right now I have to go see my dad and get this over with. I get my black coffee ordered, pay for it, then leave quickly. I'm driving, only a block away, when my phone rings again.
