Scary

I breeze out when I answered Tita Metchelle's call while I'm in the middle of my duty. I heard her panicked in the other line that made me held my breath.

"T-Tita... What happened?" natataranta ko ring tanong. I'm facing back and forth dahil sa kaba.

"Delaney... Si Kuya Daylan," Tita Metchelle muttered na mas lalong nagpakaba sa akin.

"Tita... Relax, what happened? What happened to Daddy?" My heart thrumped and skipped a beat dahil sa sobrang kaba. Hindi na rin ako mapakali.

"H-He wants to go to your mother, Laney! Nagwawala dito sa hospital at gustong puntahan ang mommy mo sa Baguio!" Tita Metchelle sounded panicked at narinig ko ang boses ni Daddy na halatang nagwawala.

I massaged my temple in frustration.

What the hell, Daddy!

"Tita, please, don't let him go there. Stop him, please," pagmamakaawa ko.

Hinding-hindi ko magugustuhan kong pupuntahan ni Daddy si Mommy sa Baguio. I'm sure she's with her other man! I don't want him to get hurt, again. No. My father was hurt because of her; I don't want him to hurt himself more!

"Pinakalma na siya ng mga doctor, Laney, pero 'pag nagising 'to, sigurado akong magpupumilit na naman itong pumunta doon!" Tita Metchelle sounds so problematic, so am I.

"Ba't daw siya pupunta doon, Tita?" I asked problematically.

"Sa susunod na araw daw kasi ang kasal ng mommy mo," Tita Metchelle sighed.

I gritted my teeth and closed my eyes tightly.

My heart pricked to it's core after hearing those sh*ts from Tita Metchelle.

How could she do this to us! And daddy, why would he wants to go there? Is he really like torturing himself seeing the woman he loves marry someone else? Bakit kailangan magbulag-bulagan para sa isang tao? Why does love makes people blind to those mistakes that their love ones made? Bakit dapat magkaganito kung nagmamahal lang naman ang isang tao?

I thought before that love is scary. But I was wrong, it's the person you love is. Hindi ang mismong pagmamahal. Mali ako nang inakala.

I report to our office after my duty. Kumakalam na ang tiyan ko dahil hindi pa ako nag-aalmusal. I don't have an appetite after hearing updates about my father.

Pagpasok ko pa lang ay malalakas na boses na ni Alessia at Talia ang bumungad sa akin. I frowned and sat down at the sofa and close my eyes.

Sumasakit ang ulo ko sa ingay.

"Bakit? Hindi ba totoo? Stop throwing yourself to a man who doesn't like you. Nagmumukha ka lang cheap!" I looked at Talia who's sneering at Alessia now.

"Shut up, Lieutenant, I don't know what you're talking about!" Alessia spat angrily. Bumuga ako ng hangin.

"Keep on denying huh? I heard your confessions to Captain Sullivan last night and you received nothing but rejections!" buwelta na naman ni Talia. Pumikit ulit ako.

Nagpatuloy sa pagsasagutan sina Talia at Alessia pero hindi ko na sinaway ang mga ito. There's a part of me wanting to hear what more Alessia saying.

"You're eavesdropping! And let me clear things out. He did not reject me, in a matter of fact I did!" Tumaas ang kaliwang kilay ko dahil sa sinabi ni Alessia.

"You can call it eavesdropping if you confessed in a private place. But hello, you confessed on him outside the building and only the potted trees and plants covered you two." Sa boses pa lang ni Talia, I know she rolled over her eyes, halata na iniinis si Alessia.

Nagmulat ulit ako.

The anger in Alessia's eyes is vivid. But Talia just smirk and shrugged her shoulder.

She rejected Santi? That's not what I heard when she confessed to Santi. Pero hindi na ako magsasalita pa dahil ayaw kong lumala lang ang sagutan ng dalawa. Knowing Talia, hindi ito nagpapatalo sa anumang bangayan.

She may be confessed again? Last night just like what Talia said.

"Are you two done? You can go back to your designated areas now," walang gana kong tanong. I cleared my throat at doon pa lang ako napansin ni Talia at Alessia.

Talia's eyes sparkled in happiness as she saw me. But Alessia's looked stunned.

What? She's surprised?

"You're here already! Finally, I can go ahead, Lieutenant Esperanza. Bye Lieutenant Monroeville." Talia is grinning from ear to ear bago lumabas.

Nag-salute lang si Alessia kay Adonis bago ito sumunod kay Talia.

Napabuntonghininga ulit ako. Sana lang ay hindi na magbangayan ang dalawa sa labas. Bunganga pa naman ni Talia ay nakakarindi na. Tsk!

I closed my eyes again and massaged my temple bago bumuga ng hangin. Bumalik na naman sa isipan ko ang sitwasyon ni Mommy't Daddy. Mom cheated on my dad kaya nagkagulo-gulo na ang pamilya namin. Kaya umalis ito at piniling sumama sa ibang tao.

She did not think twice before cheating. She's not just destroying my father and me. She's also destroying my future relationship. Because I'm afraid to fall in love thinking that the man I'm going to love will just cheat on me. It's scary.
