This was it. My time at Waverly Academy was coming to an end, and I was feeling very sentimental about it. The next day my godparents would come to collect me after our graduation ceremony, and then we'd go to prom that very night.

I played the ABBA song "I Wonder (Departure)" on my guitar while singing it. I couldn't believe this was my last night at Waverly Academy, it was surreal! Therese was feeling the same way, all of us girls were. I was 16, but I really felt I learned all I had to learn in school. My career was successful, I had lots of money, and I knew it would eventually be hard to balance both, so 1979 was my last year in school.

I packed everything, double checking that I had everything. Earlier that day, I looked around Waverly for the last time. I sat with Therese and our other friends in the rec room before eating dinner at the snack shop one last time.

I played the ABBA song 'I Wonder (Departure)' again this time on my personal player as I sang along to Frida's beautiful voice, and even though the lyrics weren't completely 'me', some of them were, especially the line "Oh no, I'll be strong, one chance in a lifetime, yes I will take it, it can't go wrong".

Early that morning, Therese and I put on our uniforms for the last time, and took a breath in anticipation.

"This is it." I told her.

"Sure is." She replied.

We were told to leave our bags in our rooms so that we could collect them after the ceremony. We put on our graduation capes and hats, and walked onto the stage. I immediately spotted my godparents amongst the other parents and family members of the girls. I saw such pride & joy in their eyes.

The headmistress gave us our diplomas, shaking our hands, and at the conclusion of the ceremony, I didn't hesitate to run to my godparents and give them a great big hug. Therese and I went to collect our bags, our graduation photos, and our yearbook. Therese's parents congratulated me, and my godparents congratulated Therese on our graduation.

"Ophelia!" Cried Therese's mom. "Can I have a hug?" Of course, I reciprocated, because I loved Therese's mom, she'd always take great care of me when I'd be at their house. Her dad was a lovely man too.

"See you tonight at the prom!" Said Therese. I waved back, smiling ecstatically.

I got into the car with my godparents, and we drove off, leaving Waverly forever. I didn't look back.

After lunch, Thea Dianthe helped me dress for my prom. Jesse was my date, naturally and I couldn't wait to see him! I wore a pastel green silk dress with white, elbow-length gloves.

"You're so beautiful, agapi mou!" Said Thea Dianthe. "Your Jesse will fall in love with you all over again."

Therese ordered a limo, and so she had the driver pass my house so that we could go to prom together. We then picked up our respective dates at their homes.

"Olia!" Cried Jesse when he saw me. "Look at you, you're so stunningly beautiful!"

"Efcharisto!" I told him, flattered. "You look real handsome."

"Thanks." He smiled. "I bought this tux yesterday, wanted a little Elvis motif."

That was my Jesse. He loved Elvis, I loved ABBA. I tried doing my makeup like Frida by doing my eyeshadow like hers.

We got to the venue, and my gosh it was beautiful! There were even colored laser lights as well as a disco ball for dancing!

During a break in the dance, the prom king & queen were announced. I put in a vote for Therese, because she was certainly deserving of the title, and I'm not just talking about being pretty.

But Jesse won the title of prom king & I won the title of prom queen! The way it worked at our prom was that the king & queen weren't voted individually, but as a couple. Therese was still thrilled for me though, and she gave me a great big hug.

The song 'Dancing Queen' came on, and to this day, I do not doubt that was planned because everyone knew of my love for ABBA! We all started dancing, and I sang along to every word of the song.

It was a wonderful night, and when Jesse walked me up to my door, I told him 'Kalinihta, agapi mou', to which he replied, 'Kalinihta, my beautiful dancing queen', and we kissed goodnight.

Uncle Galinos and Aunt Dianthe greeted me with another great big hug, as my graduation still hadn't sunk in for them.

"Agapi mou, how was your prom?" Asked Thea Dianthe.

"It was wonderful, Thea Dianthe." I replied. "I was crowned prom queen!"

At that, BOTH my godparents lifted me up, hugging me and I laughed hard as it was so unexpected!

"And I take it Jesse was prom king?" Said Theo Galinos.

"Yes." I told him, still laughing.

"You must be exhausted." Said Dianthe. "So we'll let you rest tonight, and you can tell us more about your prom in the morning."

We all said 'kalinihta' (which means 'goodnight' in Greek), and I went to freshen up, take off my makeup before I went to my room. I took off my dress, and got into bed, too tired to dress in my nightwear. Besides, it feels great to sleep naked! I won't lie about that!
