In 1993, we were given my cousin Panagiota's baby, Sonia, after her funeral. She was born on January 23rd, and we adopted her "officially" in late June after being her guardians for a few months. It was a closed adoption, too.
The funeral was a very heavy experience, as one would expect, but it's always more so when it's someone you love. My face was stained with tears the entire ceremony, but I couldn't imagine what her mother was going through! I stayed close to Thea Arhontoula, to offer her some kind of comfort. I hurt me so bad to see my aunt, whom I loved so much, go through this kind of grief.
Luckily for us, Panagiota's estranged husband was not buried at the same time as her. His family had their own funeral for him. Even though they were both gone from this earth, the bastard that killed my cousin had no business being buried next to her.
Therese also hugged Thea Arhontoula, since they also knew each other, with us being in the Go Go Girls together. She, too, was also shaken up about the whole thing.
After the funeral, as we prepared to drive home, I held baby Sonia in my arms, already feeling like she was my own daughter. When I got in the car, I removed my black headscarf, which I wore for funerals. Thea Arhontoula was coming to visit, as were Joey and Therese, so I made some food. I made moussaka and Feta Me Meli (Filo parcels with feta, drizzled with honey), in Panagiota's honor, as those were her favorites.
Months before their deaths (and long before we knew the full extent of what he was doing), Panagiota and her husband came to dinner one night at mine and Jesse's shortly before Sonia was born, and they expressed to us that they wanted us to be the guardians of baby Sonia should something happen to them, and Jesse and I both agreed to it wholeheartedly. So we knew that baby Sonia was now coming to live with us. I sensed the sadness in my beautiful little Frida as she missed her Aunt Panagiota too, but she was also excited that Sonia was going to be her new baby sister!
It didn't take at all long for the adoption to be finalized, and after we'd signed the adoption papers, our family of 4 now, went to visit my godparents. Thea Dianthe prepared a big feast for us! But then, I wasn't surprised as she always prepared her special Greek buffets whenever they had company. And because I learned to cook when I was growing up, I'd also help her out sometimes which was always fun!
"My beautiful Olia, agapi mou!" Said Dianthe as she hugged me. "I have made your favorite: Koulourakia, and chocolate swirl Paximathia!"
"Oh, you shouldn't have!" I replied. "Efharisto poli!"
"You are more than welcome, omorfiá mou." Said Dianthe.
We had a lovely evening with my godparents, snacking on those biscuits after dinner while remembering Panagiota, wanting to celebrate her life. We then went home and put our girls to bed. Our penthouse was a 4 bedroom house, so both girls had their own room, while Jesse and I had the master bedroom and the 4th bedroom was a guest room. So everything worked out!
"I'm so happy Sonia is with us." I told Jesse once we got to our own room. "I know she'll be safe with us."
"Me too." He said, gently laying a hand on my shoulder.
"I can tell the girls already love each other." I smiled.
"They sure do." Agreed Jesse. "Frida hasn't been able to leave Sonia's side since we got home. She's very happy."
Jesse then cupped my face and kissed me tenderly.
"You know, baby... since the girls are now asleep..." Flirted Jesse, running his hands all over me, and grabbing my derriere and kissing me.
I lay back on the bed as he climbed on top of me, gradually unwrapping my clothes from my body. I unbuttoned Jesse's shirt, and he helped with the rest before taking off his shirt, revealing his smoking hot body.
"I want you..." Jesse whispered in my ear, and I felt his hot breath rush down my neck.
I felt him thrust into me, kissing me passionately, as he caressed my breast, kissing it. We both orgasmed together in each other's arms before Jesse rested his head on my chest. We fell asleep this way, holding each other, grateful to God that while a loved one had left this earth, we still had Him (which goes without saying), each other, our beautiful daughters and our other remaining loved ones.
