(F/N) POV)
The small girl was getting weaker and weaker by the day. She could barely reach the bread she'd been given and on the off-chance she could, the small piece of bread was barely enough to fill her stomach.
She was growing colder and colder, unsure of what day of the week it was or what month, even. But most of all, she was scared. Scared of the footsteps that she could hear daily, scared of dying, scared for her parents, scared for her best friend, weather or not he'd be dragged into this huge mess that was becoming of her life.
If she made a sound, she'd be beaten. If her stomach rumbled, no food for a week. The bathroom was only open once a day, no exceptions. This was what she'd become accustomed to. This was where she thought she'd die.
I awoke nauseous. I hated these nightmares that only came back for more. I let out a shaky breath as I started to get ready for the day.
(Time Skip)
I felt someone poke me in the side. When I turned to see who poked me, I was met with Sero's gaze. He whispered, "Are you okay?"
I nodded, "Yeah, I just didn't sleep well last night is all. And it doesn't help that everyone on the train wouldn't shut up about me and Denki. Seriously, I mean, I could've used the space on the train!"
Sero nodded, "Nah, I totally get it! I mean, third place is a huge deal, especially considering who you fought the whole time and all."
I smiled, "Thanks, Sero. I really appreciate that!"
Mina sat on my desk, "It's so weird that people recognize us from TV! Everyone wanted to talk to me on my way here!" Kirishima piped up, "Yeah, me too!"
I heard Hagakure's voice, "People on the street were staring at me! It was kinda embarrassing!" "Sure," Ojiro smiled, "But isn't that normal for you?"
Sero sighed, "You won't believe what a bunch of elementary school brats yelled at me!"
I smirked, "Lemme guess, 'nice try'?"
Sero groaned, "Don't remind me!"
My smirk changed to a smile, "Don't worry. I mean, you did try after all, right?"
Sero pouted, "I guess, yeah." I patted his back, "Then there's nothing to really worry about, right?" He smiled as Mr. Aizawa opened the door. "Morning."
A chorus of "Good Morning, Mr. Aizawa" echoed through the classroom.
Tsu piped up from her seat, "Ribbit? Mr. Aizawa, you don't have bandages anymore. That's good news!"
Mr. Aizawa groaned, "The old lady went a little overboard in her treatment. Anyways, we have a big class today on Hero Informatics."
I sat upright, Hero Informatics? Oh gosh, what now?
Mr. Aizawa cut off my train of thought, "You need codenames. Time to pick your hero identities."
I started to panic a little bit, I haven't even thought of a name yet! What am I gonna do!?
Mr. Aizawa started talking again after he'd calmed the class down, "This is related to the pro hero draft picks that I mentioned last class. Normally, students don't have to worry about the draft yet, not until their second or third year actually, but your class is different. In fact, by extending offers to first years like you, pros are essentially investing in your potential. Any offers can be rescinded if their interest in you dies down before graduation, though."
Mineta hit his desk and muttered a few words to himself and Hagakure asked Mr. Aizawa if we'll still have to prove ourselves after we've gotten recruited.
Mr. Aizawa nodded, "Correct. Now, here's the totals for those of you who got offers."
A list of names and offers appeared on the board, each of us frantically searching for our names. I found mine, shockingly close to the top. I'd actually gotten more votes than Bakugo, despite him being the overall winner.
Todoroki had 4123 votes, I had 3992 votes, and Bakugo had 3556 votes.
That was the top three in our class.
I gulped, holy crap, that's a lot! I wasn't expecting that much at all!
I heard an impressed sigh escape Sero's lips. "Well I'll be dammed. (F/N), that's a lot, especially compared to my measly fourteen."
Still in shock, I turned to him. "Sero, you still got votes either way. Congrats on getting fourteen, some of our classmates didn't get any."
As he was about to respond, Mr. Aizawa started talking. "In past years, it's been more spread out. But there's a pretty big gap this time."
Denki flopped over in his seat, "Geh! That's no fair!"
The rest of the class had mixed responses until Jirou spoke up, "Todoroki and (F/N) got the most votes, ahead of even Bakugo?"
Kirishima nodded, "Yeah, that's the opposite of how they placed in the festival."
Sero smirked, nudging my arm with his elbow, "They probably weren't too excited about working with the kid who had to be chained up at the end." Bakugo whipped his head around to glare at Sero, "IF I SCARED A PRO, THEY'RE JUST WEAK!"
As the two of them started to argue, I heard Momo compliment Todoroki about all the votes he got. At least she's trying, Todoroki just seems to be too dense to notice.
Mr. Aizawa spoke up, "Despite these results, you'll all be interning with pros. Got it? Even those of you who didn't get any offers."
Midoriya looked a little relieved. "We are?" Mr. Aizawa nodded, "Yes. You already got to experience combat with real villains during the attack on the USJ. But it'll still be helpful to see pros at work. Up close and personal, in the field. Firsthand."
Sato grinned, "And for that, we need hero names!"
Mr. Aizawa nodded, "These hero names will most likely be temporary, but still, think it over at lunch today."
As if on cue, the bell rang for lunch. Mr. Aizawa left the room, "Class dismissed."
I packed up my things and followed Todoroki out the door. I tried to strike a conversation with him, "So, where are you interning, Todoroki?"
He shrugged, "Probably with my stupid dad."
I smiled, "So we'll be interning together, then! I need a little more control over m fire and air powers, so I figured he could maybe give me some advice on that."
Todoroki nodded, "Cool."
I sighed as he walked away, still unaware of what my hero name should be.
