(Lance's POV)
Keith's number. Should I text him? I asked myself.
Why did he write his number on my cup anyway?
I felt myself blush every time I remembered our hands touching when he handed me his sweatshirt, which I was still wearing. A couple of hours had passed and I hadn't stopped focusing on the sweatshirt and the now empty paper cup, but should I text him? Or maybe call him?
I saved his number on my phone under "Mullet" and in a sudden burst of confidence, I decided I would call him.
"..."
Straight to voice mail. I assumed he would be busy, so I left a message.
"Hey, Keith" I paused, thinking how should I thank him. "Huh... well, I just wanted to thank you. For the coffee and the sweatshirt. It was very nice of you. Anyways, see you around campus, I guess."
I didn't know what was happening to me. I was perfectly normal but a pretty boy flirts with me for like five seconds and suddenly I'm a mess? It certainly felt sudden.
After I hung up, I threw my phone towards my bed, flustered, and headed towards the shower.
I took off the sweatshirt and left it on my desk, then turned the radio on. At the moment, I just wanted to clear my mind and forget about what had happened that afternoon, that was a problem for morning Lance. But, even blasting my songs and trying to focus on showering, I couldn't stop overthinking it.
So, Keith. He wasn't really a classmate, not this year. We did have friends in common, tho, Hunk has always been very close to him. I figured Hunk would be able to help me, but it was already too late for me to call him so I had to wait until the next day.
After dinner and my sacred skincare routine, it was time for me to go to bed. Thankfully, I didn't have any homework due soon because I got nothing done that afternoon and I wasn't about to start by then. I had almost forgotten about Keith for a minute when I spotted his sweatshirt on my chair, my mom must have folded it while I was showering. Barely aware of my own actions, I put it on and went to sleep in it.
Next morning, when the alarm rang, I didn't notice. My mom called me, but I didn't hear her either, not at first.
"LANCE!" she yelled from the kitchen "You're late, get up!"
I groaned. Was I late? Impossible, I have never snoozed past my third alarm.
I rubbed my eyes and glanced at the clock.
"Oh my god oh my god" I said, rushing to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth as fast as I could, I didn't have time to have breakfast and my hair would just have to be messy for the day.
I put my favorite jeans on but I was already late so I decided to wear Keith's sweatshirt to class that day. Besides, we don't have any classes together so it's not like he's gonna find out, right?
I felt like maybe I was overreacting because I was really nervous to see him but I knew I probably wasn't going to because we didn't have any classes together. I ran out of the house as fast as I possibly could, but lucky me, all the traffic lights turned red when I happened to want to cross the streets.
In one of those spare minutes I had on my way, I pulled out my phone.
Oh no. I had an unread message from Keith.
K: hey, morning :) sorry i didn't pick up, i fell asleep early
The traffic light changed to green.
L: CANT TEXT SORRY IN A RUSH IM LATE
Well crap, another thing to deal with later today, my poor texting skills.
Sweating and feeling like death, I got to campus half an hour after the first class had started, but at least I made it.
After that class I headed to the cafeteria, my stomach was rumbling loudly and I would have killed for that french vanilla I could smell in the hallway.
"Lance!" I heard my name and I turned around.
Oh, so that's where the coffee smell came from.
"Hi, Keith" I managed to say. "Sorry about this morning, I was trying to get here on time."
I could see Hunk at the end of the hallway, if he looked my way I could get him here and help me not to make a fool of myself. Come on, Hunk, please. He looked at me, gave me a thumbs up and kept walking.
"Hey, you okay? You zoned out" Keith said, worried. "I was just asking you if you managed to get to class on time."
"I was late, but the professor didn't mind. And sorry, haven't eaten anything yet, I'm distracted." I laughed it off, and when Keith smiled I melted. He gave me his coffee, saying he didn't have time to drink it, and I accepted it. Our hands brushed again.
Keith was about to leave, but he seemed to remember something.
"By the way, are you aware that you're still wearing my sweatshirt? You're gonna have to give it back someday" he winked at me.
I don't know how I managed to keep my cool, because my face was definitely as red as the sweatshirt I was wearing, but I did, somehow.
"I'll stop by the coffee shop later today, don't worry" I smiled. "I can keep you company while you work, and you'll get your sweatshirt back."
"Okay" he smiled again.
Then, we started walking in opposite directions.
"Hey, Kogane!" I called him.
He looked back, waiting for me to say something else.
"It's a date."
