Prince/kitchen boy AU

I woke up with the sound of a bell, just like every morning. My bedroom made me feel lonely, it was too big for just one person, but I was used to it. I decided to get out of bed and go downstairs, I couldn't avoid what was about to happen. It was an important day for my mom, but I couldn't be less excited. I sighed.
"Keith!" my mom called me "You need to impress our guests and by being late you're not doing that"
"I'm coming!" I replied.
I joined my mom next to her throne.
"Queen Krolia" a maid kneeled before my mom "the ladies are here".
"Ladies? I thought I was meeting only one princess" I said, looking at my mom.
"Well, you never seem interested in any girl so I decided to invite a bunch of them" she replied "so you'll have the opportunity to meet them all and then decide who you like the most"
I had already told my mom I didn't want to get married, but she wouldn't listen. At the time, I was only 19, too young for a wedding, in my opinion. She didn't think so.
I guess she saw unhappiness in my face, because she said one more thing to me before she ordered the doors to be opened.
"I know you're not too comfortable with this, son, but do it for the kingdom. To see you become the king, that's what your father would have wanted"
I forced a smile when I saw the princesses walk in the throne room.
I introduced myself (even though everyone knew who I was) and then I politely asked them to do the same. One by one, they told me a bit about themselves as I tried to hide how bored I was at the moment. My mom, of course, faked better than I did.
The torture finally ended after the last girl in the line finished talking. Actually, that last girl wasn't so boring as the rest of them. Her name was Acxa, I remembered.
"Thank you, ladies" my mom said "you may leave the throne room now"
I looked at her.
"Mom, I don't like any of them" I announced.
"You never like any of the princesses that are introduced to you"
That's right, I don't. I'm picky. "They're not interesting enough to marry them. That's all"
But that wasn't all.
"Well, Keith, you're not a child anymore. You'll have to make a decision"
We'll see, I thought as I stood up and left with the excuse that I was hungry.
I made my way to the kitchen, where I expected to have my breakfast ready. Usually, someone takes it up to my room, but this time I didn't feel like waiting.
I opened the door and entered at the same time a boy was about to leave.
"Hey!" He said "watch where you're going!"
"I sure will" I laughed. He hadn't recognized me. Actually, I wasn't sure who he was either.
"Oh" he looked terrified "my prince, I'm so sorry, I..."
I interrupted him "Don't worry about it, I just wanted to have something to eat"
"I'm baking croissants! Would you want some?" the young boy offered.
"Sure" I smiled at him and we walked into the kitchen "who are you, by the way?"
"Huh... the name's Lance, my prince" he blushed.
"You can call me Keith"
"Alright, prince Keith" he replied.
He gave me a plate of croissants, which tasted amazing, but I tried not to sound too excited when I complimented him on his baking skills.
"I learned from a friend" he said, proud of himself.
"Well, I have about 15 princesses waiting for me upstairs, I shall go. It was nice meeting you, Lance"
Then, Lance went back to doing his job and his smile was the last thing I saw as I left the kitchen.
I brought a couple of Lance's croissants to my mom, maybe just so I could compliment him. She ate them and then insisted that I accompanied the princesses to their rooms.
"If you do" she said "you will have a chance to get to know them better".  I nodded.
Showing the ladies their rooms ended up being a tour around the whole castle, which unfortunately took me all afternoon. We had lunch halfway into the tour. I ate a lot and I was tired, so I decided to skip dinner and go straight to bed. Having met Lance that day, I fell asleep looking forward to breakfast.
