Why Can't We..?

Chapter 13

"Awww have fun guys! I love you! Behave for Liza!"
"I love you!" She waved from the back seat of Liza's car, Liza smiled and waved as she backed out of the driveway, I watched them drive away before I walked back into the house, I plopped down onto the sofa and closed my eyes as I leaned my head back. 

Silence. 

What a beautiful freakin sound. 

I didn't expect Liza to show up to pick up Ellie, and I definitely didn't expect to be kid free so early in the morning. I figured I wouldn't be dropping her off until after lunch, now I had a whole day with no Ellie. 

And not a damn idea on what to do with myself until Jin and I leave to have dinner later. 

The house was clean.
The laundry was done.
Grocery shopping was done. 
I literally had nothing to do for the first time in what felt like forever. 

"Yumi?"
"Hmm?"
"Oh, I thought you were asleep" he chuckled as he sat down on the couch 
"Nope, just sitting here" I smiled 
"What are you gonna do with your day?"
"I have no idea, honestly. You?"
"No clue, my only plans for today are to take you out to dinner" 
I smiled as I opened my eyes and turned my head to face him
"Where are we going by the way?"
"I have no idea" he smiled "I just figured we'd figure it out later"
"Works for me. I don't even care if we eat on the sidewalk" I joked making both of us laugh 
"Me either, I just wanted to spend time with you" he admitted shyly as his ears turned red, I felt my face get hot and I'm sure I was as red as a tomato. 

I was hoping I didn't misread the situation. 
It felt a lot different than just a friend asking a friend to go out to dinner.
It suddenly felt like he was asking me out on a date. 
I felt nervous. 
But I also felt like I needed to put an end to it. 
I have a million reasons why I shouldn't date him. 

"Jin..is this..a date?" I asked shyly 
"I..want it to be" 
"Oh" 
"Is that bad?" 
"Um..kind of?" 
"Oh" he pouted "may I ask why?" 
I sighed as I thought about how to word it properly to him. 
"I. Um. I'm almost a decade older than you..wouldn't you rather date someone your age? Plus, I work so much, and I have Ellie..and you're amazing with her..but.. I just.."
"I get it" he nodded "you're worried that if we date, and something happens it affects Ellie too, and the age difference freaks you out because you feel like you'd have to take care of me. But I think over the last two months of us living together you've seen that you don't have to. I try to take care of you as much as you allow me" 
"I know" I pouted "I'm sorry Jin"
"Just answer me one thing.."
"Okay" 
"Are those the only reasons? Or do you not look at me that way? Do you not see me as a man? Or have any interest in me?" 
"Jin"

He looked sad 

"I do, see you as a man. And to be honest, for as embarrassing as it is..I find you extremely attractive, and I really do enjoy your company" 
"So why can't we?"
"Because I-"
"Those are excuses Yumi. Look, just one date. Let me take you out tonight okay? And we'll just, go from there" 
"Are you s-"
"I'm positive" 
"Okay" I nodded and swallowed the lump in my throat. 

A date. 

I haven't been out on a date since Ellie's father took me out. 

"Jin?"
"Yeah?"
"I um.. I haven't been out on a date since before Ellie was born.."
His eyes widened as he stared at me in disbelief "what?"
"...yeah" 
"How? Why? You're so fucking beautiful how have you not gone out in almost seven years? Kook wasn't kidding about you being closed off was he?"
"Unfortunately no" 
He shook his head "that's so crazy to me. So wait, you haven't even been interested in anyone in that long?"
I shook my head 
"Wow..well let me say, I'm honored to be your first date in so many years" he chuckled making me blush "hopefully you enjoy yourself with me and let me take you out more often" 
"Jin" I sighed 
"I know, I know. But a man can dream right?" He smiled "now that we had a very awkward conversation, care to play some games?"
"Sure" I chuckled 

The rest of the afternoon was spent playing a game on his computer and him kicking my ass in every game we played.
