After school the next day I slowly walked to meet Lorenzo. Today Noah had to go out of town for business so it was the perfect time to sneak out to meet Lorenzo. l felt bad for not telling him but I also owed it to Lorenzo to hear him out.I was set to meet Lorenzo at a coffee shop almost 45 minutes out of town. I could have asked Sophia to give me a ride but I didn't want to bother her with my drama.
It took exactly 45 minutes before I made it to the coffee shop. It was a quaint place with a couple of other people dining in. I looked around for Lorenzo without any luck. I found a table away from the window in a quiet corner and ordered a coffee when the lady came and asked what I wanted.
I sat with my coffee thinking of what Lorenzo could have to say. Maybe he was angry and wanted to express any pent up anger he had towards me? I wouldn't blame him if he did. But whatever he wanted to say had to be kept short and sweet. I need to be home by the time Noah comes looking for me.
Before I could let my mind wonder down the path of what today would bring, the seat in front of me slid out causing me to lay eyes on Lorenzo for the first time in months.
He almost looked the same as how I remembered. I mean his hair was extremely short and he looked very tired but apart from that I could still see this was Lorenzo. We sat looking at each other for an awkward minute before he spoke.
"Annabella, thanks for meeting me." He gave me a small smile, his eyes not completely meeting mine.
"Lorenzo it's good to see you. How have you been?" I felt stupid asking how he was but I didn't know what else to say. He quickly ordered a coffee when the waitress came back over before finally looking at me. He studied me for a little while before smiling.
"It's good to see you too, I'm as good as you can be after being beaten almost to death." He said nonchalantly. "How are things with you?"
"I'm good. School's good. But umm, why did you want to see me today? I really shouldn't be meeting with you." Lorenzo rolled his eyes at me, taking a long sip of his boiling coffee.
"I see Ripper is still running your life for you then?" I took a deep breath trying not to get annoyed at the man in front of me. First things first, apologise to him.
"Lorenzo, I'm really sorry about what happened to you. It was all my fault. Noah warned me what would happen if I lied to him but I didn't listen. I don't expect you to forgive me but I want you to know that I really am sorry." The hard look on his face disappeared as he lightly held my hand from across the table.
"Annabella, you don't have to apologise okay. It's that son of a bitch's fault, not yours." I tried to pry my hands out from underneath Lorenzo's without causing offence.
He narrowed his eyes as he caught my action, moving himself further back on his seat, giving me room to breathe. "What's wrong?" He questioned.
"Nothing is wrong, I'm just wondering why you wanted to meet me?" He shook his head, almost in disbelief at my words.
"What, is it a crime to want to see you? I almost fucking died and you don't seem too happy to see me right now." I studied Lorenzo's face, he looked as if he hadn't had a good night sleep in days, weeks maybe.
"It's not that." I anxiously squeezed and un-squeezed my hands into a ball, searching for the right thing to say. He looked at me expectantly, waiting for me to speak. "It's just you know Noah said he didn't want us to see each other again. I don't want anyone to get hurt."
"I don't give a fuck about anything that guy has to say. Listen, I've had a lot of time on my hands Annabella, I've been doing a lot of thinking and a lot of planning".
