Chapter 10: What Did Just Happen?
SHE WONDERED what happened? How did everything turn out like this? It was an unexpected turn of events. Maybe she was unlucky. She shouldn't have felt so happy because of them when she knew that sadness might suddenly take over.
Their chosen day and time easily flew. She was already in front of Stoneheart University's golden gate while waiting for her dates.
Time check! It was a cold Saturday at one in the afternoon, the clouds were gray as if any moment it would make the sky cry heavily.
She just got there, maybe five minutes ago before their exact call time which was one-fifteen. Because of her nervousness, she kept standing while continuously walking around the grand waiting shed. Even when the place had a long chair for her to sit on, she couldn't sit still because she couldn't contain herself.
Until time gradually passed by without her knowledge.
The sky looked much darker than earlier. Other than that, the clouds looked as if they were ready to cry at any moment.
She was worried about two things. First, she forgot to bring an umbrella. What would happen to her if the rain started falling? Second, what if something happened to those guys that is why they are not there up until now?
But that was a little off. Could they possibly have an emergency at home at the same moment? At the exact time?
Even when in doubt, she chose to wait a little longer, hoping that maybe, one of them might suddenly show up.
However, that did not happen.
Two people that she did not expect to come suddenly appeared on the scene as she patiently waited. Did the two women in front of her know the reason why no one showed up on their supposed date?
"Well... Look who we have here. The leech," Myrtle said satirically next to Monique as they both crossed their arms over their chests.
At the first glance, the young lady already knew that the expressions of the two were full of judgment and contempt. They look meek and vulnerable as a fragile flower in a garden of roses as if any moment they'd wither but the truth was that they used to bully her in the past. They just looked so different from the past to the point that she didn't immediately recognize them when she first saw them again.
"What are you doing here?" Crostelia asked curiously but filled with wariness.
Monique sneered as she clicked her tongue while making an empathetic face that could have deceived Crostelia if she just didn't know about the girl's real colors.
"We just happened to pass by to show you something," Monique said with a smile in a tone filled with fake sympathy before she then fluttered her eyes.
Fear and angst crept in her heart immediately. However, she did not react and maintained a normal face.
"Show me something? What would you show me?" she asked as she tried to keep her voice down so that she wouldn't stutter.
"Do you know what this is?"
Myrtle suddenly showed her right palm while holding a small, clear crystal.
She froze for a minute upon seeing what Myrtle was holding. It was a projection crystal. A projection crystal is a magic item that could be used in different ways like projecting a person's memories, projecting other people in a far place while communicating with them by entering their registered names and recording videos. They were often used by adults, especially those who have money to buy it or by those in a job that requires recorder videos or evidence. They once talked about this item before in class. She wondered how-or why did Myrtle buy it?
