Chapter 15: Too Risky

THE GIRL was stunned at what she heard. Not that she is underestimating her ex-grandmother but was she serious?

However, right after the strong declaration, Shelaine merrily ran towards an old, brown cabinet standing outside her room near the dining area.

The girl followed her upon recovering from the amazement to see what the woman was doing. However, when she witnessed her back figure holding an old notebook, she stopped a few inches away from her. Then, she took a few steps sideward, only to be stunned by what she saw. Afterwards, she felt as if her muscles grew cold.

What was her penmanship doing in a notebook that seemed so plain and out of date?

Was it really her penmanship or is it just the same?

"What was that?" she asked with a tone full of suspiciousness and curiosity.

The other one who was busy looking at the notebook almost jumped at her place because of shock. Afterwards, Shelaine hurriedly shut the notebook followed by looking at her with an awkward expression on her face. Why?

"Ah! It's nothing!" Shelaine replied with a panicked expression before she let out an awkward laugh.

Out of the many words written in the notebook, the young lady only has something in mind. The only word she could remember stuck close in her mind as if she was bewitched by the word she didn't even know.

"Who is Ivan? And whose diary is that?"

The series of questions Luna threw made Shelaine wince.

Shelaine cleared her throat as silence filled their place. She has to think carefully to make sure that whatever she would say wouldn't affect the future.

"Ivan... Ivan was the diary owner's special person. The owner of this diary was my old friend," Shelaine said hesitantly which caused Luna not to keep on asking anymore.

"D-Do you still have other questions? How about we do one question a day after you finish your training starting tomorrow? I can't answer all of your questions since they might affect the future entirely but I can answer some of them," Shelaine said softly.

The young lady shrugged her shoulders.

"Alright," she answered as she sighed.

She wouldn't push it today anymore. One day, she'd know about it too. Though today didn't seem to be that day. Well, she could wait. Based on Shelaine's reaction, this matter was rather heavy or sentimental that she couldn't answer her questions. She wondered, were they connected to her or not? Or was she simply being paranoid?

AND SO, her hell-like training started as soon as the next morning came. There was only one word she would forever use to describe it; pain! It was a total pain!

Whenever she was still sleeping, Shelaine would barge in her room and would always wake her up. She would be immediately dragged outside while she was still groggy without even brushing her teeth and washing her face.

Then, without a warning again, she would place silver bracelets on her wrists and silver anklets on her ankles that made her feel like gravity was pushing her down to the ground. What is with those accessories?! They were even heavier than her. How could Shelaine place them around her body?!

On the other side, while she was suffering, she could peep at her so-called-master intently browsing on the old notebook again while laughing at her situation.

That scene continued for several days until she managed to get used to the weight and stand up already.

However, Shelaine added another obstacle in her routine. She made her run outside the house while being chased by a wild beast while she was still wearing those heavy things! Not only that, she also made her rearrange their whole house's items and added more weights on everything she was moving while a gravitational force spell was also casted on the whole house!

TODAY, she finally managed to create a question that she thought Shelaine could answer. And so, she started asking her while they were eating their dinner.

"I've got a question for you today but before that, how should I address you? I still feel weird to call you only by your name. I mean, duh? You used to be my grandmother," she said as soon as she finished her meal.

"Oh! Then why not try to call me Aunt Shelaine?" the woman replied after wiping her mouth.

Luna thought deeply. It was better to call her aunt because that was a lot respectful than just calling her by her name. Even though they only looked like they were the same age, she was still the one who served as her parent from childhood until now.

"What was your question anyway?"

"Why was I cursed? Wait. Maybe this is the better question to ask, how did I end up having a sacred curse that only gods can cast? In a book I have read before my curse was lifted, Lock and Chain Curse can be only bestowed by the gods. A sacred curse is a high-level curse that was for people who have sinned greatly. It was used to make them suffer all their lives while killing them. How did I manage to have that kind of curse if I was just a normal girl?" the young lady asked with a tone full of curiosity which caused her aunt to choke on her own saliva.

Luna was shocked by Shelaine's reaction. It looked like she knew about it again and it looked like she had no intention of letting her know again. It was impossible for Shelaine to know nothing because her magic was connected to time. How would she know if Shelaine already knew the answers to her questions, right?

Shelaine faked a cough before she answered.

"There are two kinds of curses; the sacred curse and the mortal's curse. Like what you've said, the sacred curse is given by the gods. Any curse that is given by the gods are considered as sacred even when they would cause danger. Like what you've said again, it is only given to people who have sinned greatly or the fruit of that sin. Mortal's curse is given by normal people like us who can cast curses to inflict pain to others. These two have a big difference in effect since sacred curses are made by gods and mortal curses are only made by humans," Shelaine explained lengthily that only made Luna roll her eyes.

Her thought was right. She'd never tell her anything about what she knew in the future.

Despite that, she still tried asking Shelaine after a few days when another thought came to her mind.

"WHAT is it now?" Shelaine asked when she saw Luna's hesitant expression.

After Luna finished her training, they stayed in the mountain that her aunt made as her training ground. The outer place was full of traps, weapons, hanging targets and moving targets that she always used whenever Shelaine said so.

"Do you know my origin? My whole name?" the young lady asked as she laid her back on the wide chair outside their house that was made of an old tree trunk.

"I-I don't really know where you exactly came from nor your surname. I only saw you floating in the Triumvirate River connected to the kingdoms of Middea and the whole Pandeia," Shelaine insisted.

Her eyebrows rose as her forehead knotted when she heard two unfamiliar words from her aunt's mouth. Middea? Pandeia? What were those?

"Even if I knew, I can't exactly tell you that the future might change a lot. Interfering with the future will cause a lot of trouble, you know?" Shelaine added that made her thoughts clear.

Time as magic was broad and almost seemed endless. It was really impossible for her aunt to not know anything.

Despite what Shelaine said, in her mind, she thought that; what was she hesitating for? Wasn't that what she wanted? To change the future and make sure that it won't end the same way again?

However, Shelaine couldn't risk it at this moment-where Luna's original magic was still not even awake. Even if she wanted to tell Luna everything already, she couldn't dare to open her mouth to tell her the truth. Not today where she couldn't still grasp her magic. Just not today or else she might get triggered and would be devoured by it.

It was just really... Too risky.
