Chapter 28: Intervening Equals to Suffering

ON the other hand, while the girl was busy with her newly found weapon, the two she ordered to find a bank where they could exchange their beast cores into money, got lost. They quickly found a store where beast cores could be exchanged because every time that they could meet someone, Shiki would ask them. However, when they were about to return, they noticed that they had moved so far away from the store where Luna was. The shops there are almost identical and only the signs are different so the place was really difficult to find. Also, even though Shiro is an ancient ethereal beast, his weakness is crowded unfamiliar places because he also gets lost so quickly.

Currently, Shiki is once again asking those they meet if they know the right direction to the store with the name "Geanie's Blacksmith" in the hope of getting back within the time given by Luna. Many people passed by them who did not know the place before there was a man who looked so downfallen that Shiki approached to ask.

Shiro, who was just standing next to Shiki, immediately became wary as he wondered if the boy had approached the right person. He looks like a person who will go violent at any time because of his darkened expression on his face as he looks like a person who is going through something heavy.

The dog sighed. He just hopes that the man that Shiki approached won't cause chaos or else he will have to take action.

"Good morning, brother! Do you know the way to the weapons store here? Geanie's Blacksmith is the name of the store," Shiki said with a bright smile on his lips as he bashfully scratched his head.

The man looked slightly past the boy who had touched him when his thick eyebrows met. His expression was irritated and his eyes were sharp, which made Shiki back away in fear.

"Does it look like I know places!? Go straight until you see the first left way! The first store there, that's it!" the man shouted before marching away.

Shiki scratched his head in astonishment. The guy shouted at him but he still answered his question. In the end, he still shouted his thanks in gratitude to the man who immediately widened their gap.

It looks like the man just had a bad day and he is not really a bad person. That's so mean of me to think stereotypically. Shiro thought.

Shiro and Shiki were already on their way back when something hit Shiki's eyes on the side of the road which made him curious. Seems like there's a fight? He wasn't sure. It looks like there is a group that is teaming up with one man.

Shiro, on the other hand, immediately noticed what his partner was planning to do. Because he knew how stubborn the boy is, he didn't try to intercept his plan. He found it funny though. Shiki didn't even know how to use his power and he doesn't even know how to fight physically yet he still wants to help? If only Shiro could communicate to him, he could have scolded him. But then, maybe it's better to let Luna do it instead.

Shiki turned to Shiro, then turned again to the man surrounded by a group. Shiki looked back at Shiro before he ran to the center of the mess. The latter almost slapped his forehead because of how the boy gave into the temptation, then he clicked his tongue.

"What!? Who the heck is this kid?!" a man shouted after noticing Shiki standing near them.

Shiki jumped in shock because of the loudness of the voice he heard but still chose to stay as he bravely faced the gaze of the man who shouted at him.

"Who is this kid? Why are you interfering?!?" another man shouted to the man they were beating.

HE WAS just looking for someone, why did it come to this? Azer Rosenfelt is a man who does not like using violence to answer problems. When he is in a difficult situation or has a misunderstanding with others, he just talks. However, with the situation right now, it seems that his way of resolving things will change, especially now that there is an innocent involved.

Azer's eyes widened the moment he saw a child standing by his side. Inside his eyes was a mixture of courage and fear. Why did he even intrude? Where are its parents now? He looks so scared and doesn't seem to have any fighting skills so why?

"Why are you teaming up against this older brother when he doesn't even do anything to you?" The boy's innocent question caused the four men to laugh and Azer to wonder.

"Do you know this toddler?" a man asked Azer while laughing.

The young man turned to the boy and then again glanced at the four men who had blocked his way, trying to rob him.

"Yes. So don't you dare hurt him," he answered coolly before he pulled the boy next to him and started using his magic before the four guys could even move a bit.

"Water bind!" he enchanted.

SHIKI was stunned. His eyes were filled with a mixture of amazement and excitement upon seeing the brilliant water magic of Azer that appeared on his hands. Then, it rushed towards the four people as it enveloped them fully—making it looks like they were fish inside an aquarium that was floating in the air.

It looks like Shiki didn't need to intervene as the man is strong! Hah. He didn't have to help—what help can he even offer? Now, he just hopes that he could be as strong as the man and Luna someday.

The man whispered something in the air again and afterwards, the water disappeared and four fell asleep before they prostrated themselves on the ground—totally down and unconscious though they were still alive.

The man turned to Shiki—who just smiled brightly while his eyes were full of admiration for the guy.

"My name is Azer. How about you, kid? What's your name? Where are your parents? Aren't they looking for you yet?" the young man said in a welcoming tone.

"I'm Shiki, brother Azer," Shiki kindly said to the man before he froze after a thought suddenly came to his mind. His eyes widened in shock as he felt as if his heart suddenly stopped beating when he remembered Luna's appearance in his mind out of fear.

Shiki ran so fast that Azer was left there in astonishment. Shiro immediately quietly followed.

When Shiki turned to Shiro, the latter just shook his head as if sympathizing with his impending suffering.
