Chapter 27: The Vessel of Her Favorite Weapon
"LUNA, where are we?" Shiki asked as soon as he woke up. Then, he stretched his arms while rubbing his eyes.
Shiro also looked at his master with curiosity. Where are they now? Why does it feel as if he had slept for too long?
The night after the girl's encounter with Russu, the young man accompanied her to the place she was looking for. After taking her there, he just left without saying anything.
The girl just stared at the closed store recommended to her before she entered her spatial box without waking up the two who were already there. When morning came, she simply pulled them out.
Now, they are in front of the store where she plans to buy weapons. At its top is a large sign with the term "Geanie's Blacksmith".
Compared to last night when she arrived there, which was very quiet and as if there were no people living in Grigoras, now, there are many people around who are making noise so it doesn't look like an abandoned place anymore. Because of that, their environment looks livelier. However, the condition of most of the people on the road could not be hidden from the girl's eyes. What happened to the rich natural resources of the Kingdom of Grigoras? This is not what she expected. The people are all thin and dirty while wearing clothes with a lot of patches and holes.
"We're already in the Kingdom of Grigoras. Let's just stay here to buy things and train your body a little. For now, I'll ask you to do something," the girl said in a strict tone, as if she was really a teacher.
When Shiki heard that, his sleepy spirit came to life. He will train! And the beautiful girl, Luna, is really his teacher! What a wonderful start to his morning!
The girl was almost dazzled when she saw the excessive glow in the boy's eyes. Even his smile that almost tore his lip was so bright that Luna couldn't stop rolling her eyes.
She was only forced to do it because of the context from the diary that came from the Terra Tribe. It may not have the same magic that could quickly imbue the diary owner's knowledge to its next owner, it still had a lot of knowledge about the magic of its previous owner which was nature magic. And it also seemed like the previous owner had a broad knowledge about it since he could almost do anything to everything that's connected to nature.
It would be such a waste to ignore it or to even try to learn it since her black magic already has a wide scope and enough for her. Since the diary came from the tribe where Shiki came from, she decided to teach him about its context instead. Why not let him do it himself? After all, the boy also has a lot of mana stored up in his body and it's also such a waste to let it rot. However, the diary was filled with complicated words and instructions that only people who studied in a school could understand, so how would he understand a thing if he did it on his own?
She faked a cough before talking again but then, the glimmer inside Shiki's eyes stayed there—that made him look like a real child.
"We're going to stay here for two weeks. Right now, you need to find a place where you can exchange the beast cores that we collected for money so that we can have money to spend. I'll just give you two hours to find a bank and get back here to this very store. After that, I will give you another command. Shiki, if you fail, expect my punishment for you. Now, go!" the girl said commandingly and with emphasis of every word to the two who immediately followed her.
When the two left, the young woman eagerly walked into the store in front of her. Finally, she will have her own weapon! What would be beautiful and suitable for her? Not that her power is not enough, just that, having her own vessel for her magic is much better than her magic alone. A vessel could make her magic stronger and having one could also slow down the depletion of the mana being used for she doesn't have to build her own weapon from scratch anymore.
But then, her high hopes immediately fell down when she saw all the items displayed in the store. Disappointed, she couldn't help it but to sigh. Everything either looked normal or dull to her eyesight. In short, ugly.
Luna scoffed.
"Why did that guy even bring me here? Is he playing with me? I was already being kind when I let them go but the next time I see him... Argh! I don't know what I might do to that ill-tempered kid!" Luna said to herself, irritated.
The girl was about to leave the store when suddenly, an old and fat man appeared in front of her. Though he is wearing old clothes and glasses, he definitely seems to be in a better situation than the rest of the people she saw around.
"Are you the one Russu brought here who's looking for weapons?" he asked her.
The girl scratched her head. How could she leave now when the store owner is already talking to her? She wasn't planning to buy anything after seeing the displayed weapons.
"It was me. But after seeing those on display, I changed my mind," the girl said straightforwardly, making the old man laugh.
"This is the first time that child has brought someone here, ah? By the way, all the things I sell are made with magic and can only be used if they are imbued with it," the old man said as he grinned, making Luna rethink.
Because of the words that caught her attention, she decided to look for gold again, this time, using her sharp eyes that are like the eyes of Shiki—but hers can also locate mana. But then again, she failed to do so. That was the moment she thought of finding them using her hands.
She roamed the small store with the plan of touching whatever that would catch her attention. Then, in a place full of silver and gold, a rusty chain necklace with a quarter moon pendant caught her eyesight. Her heart throbbed loudly as if it was a child that saw a new toy to play with.
The girl ran in a hurry towards the necklace to get it from its shelf. But even before she could fully grasp it, it suddenly shone, faded, floated and then moved as if alive into her right hand. The girl was startled by the coldness of the iron but she recovered immediately. When it reached her elbow, it stopped and then wrapped around her five fingers—making five finger chain rings and bracelets.
Luna gasped but her eyes flickered in excitement and joy. She tried to imbue it with her power and was astonished upon seeing how the previously rusty necklace—that turned to chain bracelets and rings—became a shiny silver accessory. After that, her black thread crawled as if vines on her hand, wrapped around the bracelets until it reached her fingers. However, she was not satisfied, so she changed the first look until her new weapon also reached the tips of her fingers. Still unsatisfied, she again used magic on it which caused it to become just black ink etched on her skin that if she wanted to use, it would become a weapon.
Satisfied, the girl smiled as she looked at her hand. After that, she took the five beast cores from her spatial box that she got from killing sacred beasts to pay what she owed the salesman who seems to be so astounded to even say anything after witnessing what she had done.
