Chapter 18: Contracting a Beast

GUARDIAN beast, a beast in any level that got tamed and entered a blood contract with its master.

Spirit beast, the lowest and weakest level of a guardian beast that anyone could try taking and succeed. Usually, their kinds were being used by hunters or mercenaries to practice on.

Sacred beast, the stronger version of a spirit beast. If a normal person wanted to tame one, he would have a little hard time but if he was a little stronger, he'd probably succeed.

Divine beast, a rare type of a beast that is hard to tame by a normal person. Their kinds were ferocious and stronger than the spirit beast and sacred beast but once tamed, they would only listen and obey their master. This type of beast was usually the last evolution a normal guardian beast could achieve, however, there were other rare cases that happened in the past and probably up until today.

Ethereal beast, the almost peak level that a guardian beast could achieve. This was the strongest in terms of physical attacking and magic among the three evolution of beasts that were mentioned. This was also the hardest one to tame since its power could compete with a strong mage or could even kill one.

Lastly, the ancient beast, the rarest kind of beast that could ever appear in the entire history. This type of beast was the strongest out of every evolved beast that was mentioned. An ancient beast was always born at the strongest level. But an ancient beast was not only just an ancient beast. An ancient beast is always mixed with other beasts that makes them an ancient spirit beast, ancient sacred beast and so on.

An ethereal beast could only be compared as an ant to an ancient spirit beast. But an ancient spirit beast could only be dust to an ancient ethereal beast.

This beast is already powerful but in order to even grow stronger, its master should grow stronger for it. Other than that, it could also train meticulously.

What was even better, this ancient beast has its own human form with its strength tripled than when it was in the beast form. If an ancient beast appeared on an ethereal beast pack, it would be making an ancient ethereal beast the strongest of all existing beasts.

Then, there is also this taboo type of beast; the demonic beast. It was a type of beast that kills a lot of mages and feeds on their magic power. The more lives killed, the stronger it gets. Usually, these beasts were raised or tamed by evil mages that also feed on human lives and mana in order for them to be stronger. Evil mages were those normal mages that were too greedy and always wanted to get stronger by any means. In order to do that, they would use a forbidden spell that needed to take others' lives in order to raise their magic power. Usually, evil mages were always being mistaken as black magic specialist mages and vice versa.

The guardian beasts that people usually take are those beasts that could be encountered in the mountains, caves, air or in the water. Those were the ones being tamed by the mages if they would like to. However, the cursed people existed so some beliefs got twisted. Those with curses sometimes have an inborn and a strong guardian beast inside them. But not every cursed person has one. They said, maybe it was just by pure luck or evidence of how strong a person was before reincarnating.

That made her wonder, was it just luck or her previous sinner soul was really strong?

"If you agree to make a blood contract with me, I'll let you feast on my handsome human form every day! That's not a bad deal!" Shiro shouted in panic, afraid that the girl would really leave the Nexus Consciousness at any moment and never come back.

"What's the use of seeing your face every day when there are a lot of handsome guys in our realm? I don't need a useless pet who can't even protect its master. Looks? What's the use of that if you're weak?" Luna wryly replied that made Shiro's veins almost pop in frustration.

Pet... Did this girl really just call me a pet? An ancient ethereal beast like me was called a pet by this weak human!?

"I'm not a pet! I'm an ancient ethereal beast!" he insisted.

"Oh? Tell me what can you do? What benefit can I get if I make a contract with you? I'm sure that there are a lot of useful beasts outside this consciousness. Why would I even have a need for you?" the young lady said as she raised an eyebrow.

Shiro balled his palms in so much frustration and then let out three consecutive deep breaths to calm himself because of the quick consumption of his patience brought by the annoying and stubborn girl he met.

"I'm an ancient ethereal beast. That alone is enough reason," he replied with mixed arrogance when he calmed down.

"Oh? How can I be sure that you won't betray me in the future and only serve me as your master? Hah. An arrogant beast like you would be a pain in the neck. I'd rather find a submissive and useful one that does not only rely on his face," she said with sarcasm that made his sour mood even worse.

"Fine! I know black magic! I'm older than you! I'm stronger! I vow to be loyal and faithful and only serve one master which is you! I'll do everything you want me to just take me out of here!" Shiro said in despair.

If the girl really leaves by now without even creating a contract with him, there might be a huge possibility that she wouldn't come back anymore and just find another beast outside to take as her guardian.

The young lady smiled sweetly and almost applauded internally when she heard the desperate words coming from the voice.

Hah! It was already an ancient ethereal beast, why would she still let it go!?

She faked a cough before she spoke.

"You already said it. You can't take back your words once we get out. Before doing the contract, I must do something to you first. Betrayal is what I hate the most so you don't have a choice but to do what I say," Luna said in a commanding tone.

"Okay," he replied.

Finally! She stopped! he thought.

"Stop your heat and come closer to me, just a step ahead of me," she instructed.

Then, he immediately followed.

The moment she felt him closer, she raised her right hand and touched the ball of energy where her soon to be guardian's soul laid. As soon as her skin felt him, she started the binding spell that she learned in the diary. A few moments later, a white and glowing crescent moon appeared on Luna's forehead that lit up the place for a few seconds that immediately disappeared as soon as the spell ended without her even realizing it. While on the other hand, the moon that appeared to Shiro only showed in the middle of the energy ball since he didn't have his physical body yet. The moon only lost its glow but it didn't disappear on him after a few moments finishing the spell.

Now, she was sure that he wouldn't betray her. After all, death was the only ending for the betrayers who had the binding spell. Binding spell was like a forced knight oath between two living creatures: the acting knight and the knight's master. One betrayal would always lead to death.

"Now, tell me what should I do to be able to do the blood contract?" she asked.

"Nothing. Just let me bite you," he said casually.

Then, she realized that the presence of the ball of energy already disappeared and transformed into some kind of an animal that suddenly bit her index finger until she felt pain and blood coming out of it.
