Chapter 16: Time to Ripe
SIX MONTHS easily passed by like a whirlwind in Verendus, it is now the thirteenth of November-her birthday! Yet still, she saw no signs of him-as if he never existed at all. As if he was just an illusion made by her wide imagination.
It was her birthday but instead of celebrating, she is currently inside her room, sulking and crestfallen because of the blues she felt caused by the guy who confessed to her and suddenly disappeared.
Her time flew easily while she was having a hell-like physical training with her aunt and thankfully, only a week was left until she would be able to finish it all.
Since today was her today, she was free from tiredness caused by her training. Although they didn't totally celebrate it.
They were having a break today since she had improved so fast and almost didn't need Shelaine's teaching anymore. A few more days and everything would be polished.
Currently, the young lady was busy staring at the black ceiling of her room while lying on the bed with her hands raised in the air. Her heart was filled with various emotions, and her mind was flooded with questions that she did not know when would be answered-if they'd ever be answered.
Such a scenario continued for several hours until the girl's silence was disturbed when Shelaine barged in.
"Luna! That's enough sadness! It's your birthday today so you should celebrate instead of lamenting as if your boyfriend just died! I have a present for you. Let that man go off your mind for today and be happy. He also missed you for sure," Shelaine said enthusiastically as she knocked on the door so loud as if with the thought of wrecking it if she didn't let her enter. So, the young lady was forced to open it right after the first knock, ignoring her last words.
"This is my gift for you!" Shelaine said happily just as she opened the door and then presented the familiar old notebook to her.
What just happened?
Before, she couldn't even show her the notebook, yet now it was already a gift for her?
"What's this for?" she asked, wondering.
Shelaine scratched her head and then gave out a genuine smile.
"You know, your physical training is about to end and we're not practicing the same magic. That's why I am giving this diary to you so that you can learn about it by yourself. Though, you are only allowed to open this diary the day you're finally leaving on your own," Shelaine explained to her that just confused her mind even more.
"What do you mean by we're not practicing the same magic? How do you know that? I haven't used my magic again after falling asleep for a week nor train using it but I remember being a low-level enchanter? If I'm not mistaken, that's just a facade. But how did you know about it other than seeing the future? The future can change but the way you said it, it's like you're very certain," she said with suspicion.
"In our world, Verendus, there are three realms being managed by these three major gods namely Gwydion, Aengus and Cailleach. Gwydion manages Caelistis which is the realm in the sky. Aengus, on the other hand, manages Pandeia which is the realm underneath us. Lastly, Cailleach manages Middea which is the middle realm where we live. In a world where we have three different yet big divisions, don't you think it's normal to have or learn different types of magic? You asked why am I certain about your magic? Because those who are born with a sacred curse often possess the same magic-black magic. I'm giving this diary to you because the old owner of it possessed the same curse as you," Shelaine explained lengthily, which caused chaos in her mind for a few days.
AND SO, that year passed by smoothly without his traces. She perfected her physical training in different martial arts and different kinds of weapons. Today was the end of her two months of rest after she completely mastered everything that was taught by her aunt and finally! She would go on a journey by herself!
Today, she is in her room, arranging the things she would need for the trip when Shelaine suddenly appeared beside her and casually slipped an item into her bag without asking for her permission or even letting her know what it was.
"What was that?" she asked as she was busy scanning the diary she took from her bag when her aunt moved.
"Nothing important. Everything you will need is in the diary. Finish arranging your things and I'll leave first. When I come back here, you should be gone and already in Grigoras!" Shelaine shouted before quickly shutting the door and left the house in a hurry while forcing herself not to cry.
On the other hand, Luna didn't mind her aunt's words as she found herself being astonished by the diary's content. Other than the penmanship being like her own, everything written there was just truly amazing and useful! It was like the owner had gone through a lot of things and places-as if the owner already traveled the whole world.
"Where should I first go? Based on this diary, Nierling Kingdom is the most convenient place I should try for now. Aside from the fact that people in that place are hospitable, they also have a mountain that is considered as a great training place for a newbie like me," Luna said as she wrinkled her forehead while reading the diary.
There, it was said that the Kingdom of Nierling was slightly larger than the Kingdom of Stoneheart and the lives of the people there were also more prosperous. The locals were rich in natural mineral resources-especially in gold and silver.
She turned the page again and then was stunned because the paper attached to it suddenly tore apart and floated in front of her. The letters on the paper separated from it one by one and remained in the air as it emitted a black smoke. She was startled after a few moments as the words in the air that were being followed by her eyes started to form voices in her mind.
"To anyone who will be able to find my diary in the future with a sacred curse, this message is for you.
I know you. I know who you are. Do you believe that?
If you're still reading this, you probably have that curse and you're curious with my words... Or is it really a curse? Well, anyway, that's good. Keep going.
Darkness does not always mean evilness. In this world where we live, darkness is also everywhere. We see it behind the light; the shadow. We see it in the sky whenever the sun goes down. We also see it at the deepest part of the ocean. It is just simply everywhere.
Black magic does not need an impure heart to be conquered. What you need is a strong will and a brave heart to be able to use the power vested upon you successfully. Unlike the other magic where you have to study them to use, black magic is imbued inside your body and could be controlled by your own will.
Then only two words I will say to you if you want to manifest your power for the first time are silence and concentration.
I've written about my old techniques in my diary. Rest assured that you will learn a lot. Be patient, young one. Your time is yet too ripe."
