"I wonder if Guk's already home," Mingyu told Lalisa, carrying the groceries.
Lalisa averted her attention elsewhere, perfectly predicting what Mingyu would ask her to do.
"Why don't you call him to make sure?"
Oh, c'mon, it's like she didn't see that coming. Lalisa darts her eyes towards Mingyu, beaming a seemingly not-obvious fake smile. "He told me he'll be coming home late," Lalisa tells him.
Mingyu raises his eyebrows. "I'm surprised he still works extra hours despite having you already."
Lalisa looks away, thankful they've arrived at Jeongguk's porch. "I can handle it from here," Lalisa tells him.
Mingyu arches an eyebrow. "Remember, I have the keys," he teased, which made Lalisa giggle a bit.
Just before Mingyu lays the groceries on the floor, the door suddenly swings open, revealing Jeon Jeongguk still in his police uniform.
"Oh, Guk," Mingyu greets him.
Lalisa gawks, not expecting him to be home earlier than her. "Hey," Jeongguk greets him back. He then averts his attention towards Lalisa, lightly nods at her, then proceeds to take the groceries out of Mingyu's hold.
"I should probably go now. See you soon, Lalisa!" Mingyu beams.
Lalisa smiles back and nods, "Yes. Thank you for accompanying me!"
"Anytime!" he chimes before he gives Jeongguk a small salute and walks away.
Jeongguk and Lalisa eye each other for a moment. The male proceeded inside, and Lalisa followed him, locking the door behind her. She shyly followed him to the kitchen, too. She watched him as he gently placed the groceries onto his countertop.
"Are you mad?" Lalisa asks him.
Jeongguk arches an eyebrow. "Why would I be?"
"Cause I came back here late?" Lalisa's shoulders inflated a bit at her question.
"Why would I be mad?" Jeongguk bluntly asks her. "Look, no personal attachments here."
Lalisa purses her lips. "I'm kinda upset about that part . . ."
Jeongguk halts from wherever he's standing and looks at Lalisa attentively. "Why?"
"Because we can't even be friends."
Jeongguk rolls his eyes. But of course, that's what's on her mind. Though she appears to be a bit naive at times, he notices that she's also quick-witted, which makes him question what on earth she used to do before being entangled with him.
"If ever I'm the father of your child, wouldn't it be weird that we're friends?" Jeongguk asks her.
Lalisa lifts her eyebrows, a teasing smirk forming on her lips. "Oh, I'm sorry. Did you want us to be more than friends?" Jeongguk frowns at her. "Kidding!" She laughs. "Why would it be weird? At least the parents are getting along, right?"
"Right . . ." Jeongguk looks away from her and starts to unbutton his uniform. He took his top off and only left a plain white shirt. "So, what was your job before you found out you were pregnant?" he starts, eager to know.
Lalisa nervously chuckles. "Ah, I was . . . well, I used to work at a law firm."
"Used to?" Jeongguk snaps his head towards her instantly, face all scrunched up in irritation, "Did you quit?"
Lalisa just nervously chuckled, making Jeongguk face-palm.
"I had to focus on the baby!" Lalisa reasons.
